I fished one about half a dozen times. Its really tough because I was in some snot outside Nantucket once and thought we were doing decent, but looking back seemed very "bouncy" like she was pushing through the water but was almost ontop of it. I was a little disappointed when I saw a Luhrs 32 Open pass us, so that made me really think. We had a Luhrs 32 Open too, at the time but had engine problems and fishing the SS30 that was a friends.
I say that and take it with a grain of salt, I'd be very interested in going back on one because that was the first time I was ever on a downeast. My brother and father were on it to and it turned them away, matter of fact it took about three years to talk my Dad into buying the H&H 40 with me after that. |

Is the keel on the ss30, not a full keel? How would this effect handling? I know very little about hull designs, been trying to learn more. Been learning a bunch on the site. I have heard this boat is suppose to be great in a head sea? It doesn't look like a very big 30. They are beautiful though. Anyone know more on the handling?

Stewart Workman @ SW Boatworks Stueben Maine and Calvin Beal are "launching" a new 30 footer. The plug for the mold is being finished now and according to Stewart will be ready in 3-4 months.
The "new" 30 will have a 12 ft beam, 11'6" @ the transom and be able to swing up to a 28" wheel. He's talking 35+ mph speeds with 420 hp. For what it's worth, Bill D |

I first heard about the new calvin 30 a few months ago cant wait to see what it will look like, Stew does really nice work so I'm sure it will be great.
The south shore is on of my favorite hulls that Molli G is for sale right now absolutly gorgeous boat. Not the best offshore hull but great for fishing in the bay. |
