I am building a 38 Flowers and its time to get serious about the power plant. Andy at Cape Island will be finishing the boat and he specified the QSM. I have had a few bad experiences with the engine on my friend's NB and I would like to see what my other options are.

Talk to Jay at Mack Boring about a Scania. The 13L would be a nice fit for that boat and it is a well supported engine. My other recommendation would be a John Deere. I am with you on the QSM11 I love Cummins but that thing gives me the willy’s!

What would you think for exhaust options? I really appreciate your time

Well, in my dream boat it would go back at the transom, with the generator, propane tanks and wesbesto heater. It depends on the boat. I would want to see the lay out.

Sorry, to answer your question better. You can run the exhaust out the top of the cabin and be safe (my boss and I just had a discussion about this). Running it out thru the hull would be better, in my opinion.

Hey Jerry, I saw something on that flowers thread that sparked my interest. Have you ever put a tankless on demand water heater in a boat? I have a propane stove so I already have a tank and I would love to do that..
      Thanks in advance
      Chris

I haven’t. I have seen them used. ABYC fails to acknowledge them so we can’t install them. I haven’t looked into them recently but if I were building a boat that is the direction I would go. I don’t want or need a big 120VAC system.

      Hey Jerry
Would it be possible for your yard to launch the gold digger Saturday, we are trucking her down Friday eve, southern Maine does not allow oversize hauling on weekends. If so how much is that cost?
      Thanks
      Tim

What are your thoughts on the Crowley 28? Is that too many hours for the 210?
I have been exchanging emails with the owner looking to potentially upgrade from my webbers cove 22.

i'm looking at a 1993 30 southshore with265 john deere 5000 hours. I have no experience with diesel engines. What is your opinion of the 265 john deere. How long should it last? Also were the southshore solid fiberglass or cored hull.

Jerry I am looking at a boat with a Volvo d12B MH. I know nothing about diesels what information could you share about this engine i.e. longevity. What are areas I need to look at? Do they have any unique problems? It was used in a commercial application before and I will continue to use it that way. Thank you.

      Hello,

I saw on a past post that you recommended Matt at Samoset Boatworks. As you may have noticed, I am between a Wesmac and the 42 Calvin Beal. I am pretty sure I want to go with the CB. Stewart is awesome and his work looks equal to Wesmac and his prices is better for apples to apples. The problem is his time line. Cant start the boat until 08/2018. Considering Samoset to finish it. Why do you recommend Matt at Samoset and how would he differ than SW Boat works doing the boat from start to finish?
Do you have any affiliation with either Matt or Stewart?

      thanks

      Scott

Drinking water. Could be life or death depending on where you are. 12 hours waiting for the tide when it is 90+ out with drinking water is 10 times better than with out.
