    Back fill the area with something hard. Like epoxy. Not actual epoxy, because epoxy is the devil, but something LIKE epoxy.

    I've replaced seals in the water, a whole rudder even. A plastic bag is your friend to staunch the flow of water ingress

    Unless otherwise requested, Tides shaft seals go in all of the boats I do And when they are requested, I fight hard to get them in anyways

    Smooth jaw wrench. Any old tool place should have them. Plus those nuts are on backwards.
