I'm currently looking to purchase a boat with this engine. I know Volvo engines are typically more expensive for routine maintenance. This engine only has about 350 hours on it. I'm curious about any pros and cons about this motor. At WOT it spins at 2200 rpm and 25 knots. At cruise of 20 knots it's at 1800 rpm and about 1.1 mpg.
    Thank you for any input!

The D 12 is a very good reliable marine engine. Speaking from experience because I own one. Trouble free. I don't find it any more expensive for routine maintenance. You don't need to purchase Volvo filters.

Thanks Downrigga. Is your engine in a 36' NB? What do you get for cruise and WOT and rpm with that engine/hull? Thank you. That's a beautiful boat you have there!

I had a D12 550hp in a 42 H&H she maxed out at 1900 had 14+k hours on her and never missed a beat. There are a few commercial guys in Barnegat with well over 35k hours on them with no major work done. Great engine. The guy I bought the H&H from had a new Mussel Ridge built and he put a D12 in her. Hes a full time commercial high liner. That says a lot about the D12. Good luck!.

Thank you Jim and Downrigga. What size prop do you spin on your NB Downrigga? I think this boat I'm looking at may be over propped?

are you looking at the blue NB 36 that's on YW? The performance #s on that boat don't seem right to me, unless she's got a ton (literally) of lead in the keel she should top out close to 30 on the pins. Cruise should be 23-24

Yes. I've got a deposit on her. I took it for a spin and it definitely doesn't get max rpm at WOT. I know boats get heavier with age(like me) but I think the prop may need some work to get her to 2350+\- rpm. I think she is built pretty heavy with all the wood in the interior. I don't know what size prop it is yet but I want to find out and compare #'s. Thanks

I can not tell you exactly what size prop. Its either a. 26 sq or a 28 sq...whichever one is the biggest you can put on the 36. How many hp are you?

Put an injector cleaner in the fuel . How many did she make? Has the boat been sitting?

I will try that for sure. Great idea. It has been sitting as it does not have many hours on the motor.

The growth on the bottom and maybe even the prop will effect your rpms. Don't be afraid of the motor.

She has Dqx 28" wheel. I don't remember the pitch though. 28x26 will probably do the trick. That boat loves a 3 blade wheel if you want to get more speed out of her but she won't be as smooth as now I'm sure.
