Hi, I am new here, been reading lots of old threads, trying to learn as much as I can about DE boats, lots of good threads! Looked at a 36 NB on yacht world, it is a 2001 Blue hull, white top, some months back happen to come back around to it. Not sure how to post a link to it? Any thought on how the 36 will perform offshore, 3/4 ft seas? Also wonder about cruising speed, she has a Volvo 370. Any thoughts good or bad will be appreciated!

    Thanks

She seems like a lot of boat for the money. Personal use only, no chartering or bloody fishy decks on this one, too much wood! Won't be a speed demon. But fast enough. Not used for 8 years, probably owners health or something. Don't know anything about the engine, can google it or go to boatdiesel.com to check it out. If you keep on pulling it up on your computer I think it's worth the trip to go see her.

Thanks for the reply! The more I think about it, having a hard time visualizing fishing on this boat! We are not super hard core, but we do fish a lot! she is pretty clean! Definitely would need a second station in the cockpit! I am looking around, don't mind a project, have built a few boats! Trying to find the right balance between cruiser, fisherman, price!

    You both are mistaken.
At 210k you are paying for the hull kit, drive train and systems.
All the labor for the build is free of charge. The age of the boat is a non issue. It's minty fresh.
It may be more than you want to spend but it is not overpriced.
The boat you are looking for may be out there but just because this one doesn't fit your specs is no reason to say she is overpriced.
For the cocktail cruiser guy she is perfect and in my opinion is gorgeous and a fair asking price that you could probably make a quality offer on and get a standout among all the picnic cruisers out there.
There's got to be 25k in varnish work on the boat. She just needs a buyer that understands the work it took to build her.
I hope she finds the right owner that appreciates her and deserves her.

She is nice! Have you ever been on a 36 NB?

Thanks, I really thought she was priced pretty good, given her condition, pedigree, woodwork etc.

I was wondering how they handled? Being narrower than some makes, do they roll more?

    Thanks!

Personally I think age matters. This hull was built in 1996. The engine is a 1996. Hull is 20 years old, engine is 20 years old. That's a very large number of years of better engine & boat building behind even if it was stored indoors the whole time.

Isn't a 200K boat if you ask me, there's going to be a 10 year old boat for that $$ popping up sooner or later.

As far as the engine goes @ 250 hours you still have a lot of life left in that motor. I tried to look up (via google) what the hour interval is for a R4 rated engine but had no luck.

As far as the rest of the boat it depends on maintenance. Does the seller have records to challenge? Have key components been replaced with time (pumps, chargers, and batteries)? Is the hull cored or solid?

While the picture shows max speed currently while under tow I am working on that. I have been on 3) 36 NB and am always looking to see another. Like most DE boats they are all different and how they are set up makes an impact on how they handle what I have noticed is that the 36 NB always feels very stable and runs smooth through the water. Slippery is a good adjective for how the hull goes through the water. I plan on building mine light with as much HP as I can afford on a budget to maximize speed but I feel the 36 NB is considered one of the DE boat worlds efficient hulls in terms of ease of push through the water.
I have been on a friend's 36 set up for light fishing and comfortable cruising with a flying bridge and 480HP(?) Volvo and it was rock steady and dry but not overly fast but still cruised around 20. I have been on Downrigger's well thought out beast of a 36 with it's huge Volvo and it was also rock steady even with a tower but very fast. And Dry which my Crowley is definitely not. I have also been on mine and all I know at this point is that it was built very strong and it needs a lot of work. But it is worth it. I could never find the right boat for us as the DE world is a custom world where everyone builds their ideal boat so now I am lucky to have a blank canvas to work with. It will take time but it will be worth it in the end.

I have not followed up on it, decided it may be a tad too nice inside, and at the price the age concerns me! Thanks for the reply, enjoyed reading your comments in the threads!

Thanks for the reply! And your honesty! The 36 Nb, is a nice looking hull, best of luck with yours! Having a blank Canvas sounds great, But having built a few boats, I understand how much $ and labor can go it to one! Are you doing the work your self? I have looked in too, having hull built and partially finished, where I would finish off interior details, etc! That way I can get what want and add some of the systems over time, when I can afford, or when they are needed. I like a very simple boat, painted inside, but well faired, just a few wood accents! What year is your hull?

Sitting idle for 7-8 years ? Wonder if that Volvo is being turned over occasionally ? Beautiful finish work.
