simple green works good with aluminum. If you want it to shine, you can polish with Flitz or another metal polish.

They do make acid based aluminum cleaners that work really well. They use it for the exposed raw aluminum on truck bodies. Maybe someone on here knows which type of acid it is.

Just be aware that hatch cover is anodized and not raw aluminum.

You may want to ask someone at Rose's Marine in Gloucester,. They sell those Anchor hatches and can probably advise you about cleaning

Not too much you can do with an anodized finish that has become oxidized. Alumabrite does have good reports and a friend swears by the stuff, but in the end it's still modern day snake oil. It might be time to break out the 2 part epoxy paint.

Thank you for all the replies . I never thought about the anodizing . Makes things interesting . I'll see if I can clean up the messy area at the pull ring . After reading up on anodized aluminum I don't think I'll have much success . I don't want to remove it ( anodizing ) and I'm sure it would be expensive to redo .

If you have not already, how about calling the manufacturer and ask them.
