I plan to look at an Albin 28 with a Cummins 6BTA 5.9 M1 Diesel with 1,000 hours. Any thoughts, advice...

Great engine. Called the 6BT 210/220.
    Unless you have already.
Before you go to look at the Cummins, read as much as you can on "Tony's Tips" about the Cummins 5.9 family of engines, exhaust design, marine age, filtration you name it.

Diesel Jerry's (on the forum here) dad has a 6BT 210 in his lobster boat with 14,000 hrs. :D

You searched for 6BT 210 - Seaboard Marine

BillD, thanks for the heads up, just went and read Tony's Tips. Marine Age... makes sense.

Is it an aftercooled engine or just turbo? The BTA M1 was rated 250 hp, the M2 was 300. The 6BT was 210. Properly maintained they’re all terrific engines.

If you have the serial number of the Cummins post it here.
I'll have Tony run it...unless someone here beats me to it first.
Figure out exactly what engine you have.

And you'll want to investigate the following:

Albin 28 / Cummins Engine - poor exhaust design -

    You found me!
I am a big fan of Cummins Diesel. A long with Scania and certain Yanmars. I am also a systems tech so I can help with stuff out side of the engine room. Never hesitate to call or email. All my contact info is on my signature below every post. Don't worry about the PayPal link that is more of a tip jar than for payment of service. It's completely voluntary.
