From my experience Deere makes a great product, the 6068 is a proven engine, and at 225hp should last a really long time. A member on here, Eyschulman, recently built a new boat with twin 6068 Deere's, so he might be a good one to ask.

My brother had one in a 32 Holland that was used year do d for commercial lobstering. Awesome motor. He had the 265hp. The boat and motor are still going strong today.

Good motor. I know of a few that have held up well in the commercial lobster fishery. Everyone that I know who had them liked the motor

I had one on a commercial boat I ran. It was running a generators that was rated around 200KW. So I'm not 100% on its hp rating.

It was the most reliable engine I have ever seen. It has just over 29,000 hours on it now and still runs just fine. I did go through 2 heat exchangers and a couple of raw water pumps, but it hasn't never even had the valve covers off. The owner always said it was running fine and spend the money we had on things that needed fixed.

I chose a 4045 to repower my boat because of the experience I had with the 6068.

Like I always tell people , check what they are using for coolant. They are wet linered engines, and require DCA additives, or premixed coolant to prevent liner erosion. I have seen a few develop problems around 8000 hours without protection. This goes for all wet linered engines. Fleetguard has test strips to test for DCA levels in green coolant. The red premixed has it mixed in. They are a great engine, start great in cold weather, and were a very popular choice. I put a new one in my old wooden boat, and it has been thru 5 owners since, and I know it hasn't been cared for at all, and she is still going strong.
