I forget the model number but Ridgid makes a pipe wrench with jaws for a hex nut. I borrowed a friends to use on my stuffing box. Nice tool. Try a Google search.
    I just checked. It's model # E110.

I have an 18" adjustable wrench that works just fine. Or get a legit monkey wrench!

Ha! Just looked in the box, I already have the E110 but in 9" version.
Never knew that old thing went out to 2 5/8"

Maybe that with Genuises knocker wrench and I might get it done. Who knows last time these were off.

I think I might just machine the teeth off one I already have.

Must be 1/2 dozen laying around.

Smooth jaw wrench. Any old tool place should have them. Plus those nuts are on backwards.

Jumbo adjustable wrench most of the time. I also have a 3/4 inch drive socket set, and jumbo combo wrenches. I would let you borrow it you were closer.

I bought a socket and breaker bar at Sears. Only problem is that the socket is not deep enough to reach the skinny nut if it is installed first so I have to install the thicker nut first then followed by the skinny nut.

In reality I don't need the breaker bar but it does make things easier while lying on the ground.

Must have missed that while struggling to comprehend when you said "Measured my nuts today, have 2 5/8"

Must have been some awkward there in the yard, hunched over under your boat. Random passerby's be all like "Hey, guy with boat, whatcha doin?" "Oh just measuring my nuts random citizen" or a frantic, slightly out of breath "Haven't you ever seen a grown man measuring his nuts before?" Either one could work really.

Actually when I drove in the yard Todd (madchark) was finishing up on the Emily Rose before she gets pulled and I yelled across the dock.

    "Going to measure my nuts!"

    True story.

    Fun times.
