4g simrad any good?
Yeah, it's been a really solid performing dome for a while now, and as a solid state FMCW radar it doesn't use a magnetron. As such, there's no 'main bang' - the black hole that you'll see on a radar when zoomed in tight; as a result, you're able to see targets literally 10' from the boat. Ever notice when running past a buoy pretty close it tends to vanish for a few sweeps until you pass it? that's essentially the byproduct of any magnetron based radar. Also, and knock on wood of course, there has been very, VERY few failures of these radars which is always the most important thing; doesn't matter how well a radar performs if it isn't operational when you need it.
I have the 3g version and love it. Bought it from Chris (Warfrat). Great close in resolution. I boat in the Chesapeake where land is rarely more than 4 miles away, so I can’t speak to the long range utility.
Also the power requirements are fairly low.
jrc, 1800 . 6.5 inch screen, 24 mile radar. can that chart plotter/radar be upgraded to a 12 to 14 inch screen without changing out radar dome ?
That's a negative Bill. I love the 1800, but the NKE-1065 scanner/dome was specific to that model only.
Thank you very much.
