I have read about the organization in regards to the Fastnet sailboat race off of Ireland in...1979. Numerous boat sunk and people died, significantly due to the light construction of some of the racing boats. RNLI was assisting, but in the end all those that were rescued were picked up by helicopter, and the the RNLI mostly towed in the abandoned boats. Shows that technology changes everywhere.

I noticed on the Scania website that the new RNLI boats being built use Scania DI13 engines.
