I have a article on what was done to the wesmac 39 keel and rudder when developing the bar harbor 39. Drop me a line at duett470@gmail.com and I will forward a copy. It explains the entire rational and Lincoln Spencer's involvement. I own a 06 bar harbor.

Here is the discussion I referenced to the keel, rudder, skeg mods performed by Bradley Boats on the Bar Harbor 39. Sorry for the delay.

That is a really interesting article. It also helped me understand bow steer a little better. Thanks for posting.
Does the keel modification work as well as described?

No problem. Yes I find the boat handles quite well. It tracks nicely, almost dont need the AP.
The boat is quite stable in following and quarting seas. Again tracks well. Very little like lean while turning with the low dead rise aft and no resistance to turning from a large keel. Placing the skeg and rudder further aft clearly plays a role. Less wetted surface ect.

Cant find much I dont like about the boat. It might benefit from some form of trim control. It did have lifting rails along the full chine. Previous owner removed them as yards kept doing damage to them.

I might put them back in the aft third of the boat, aft of any lift strap. They could be at least 8 ft long. Anybody seen lift rails that dont run the full length of the boat.

I have probably 1/2 to 3/4 length lifting rails, are great. However when under speed my bow is still a little too high. Definitely if I'm sitting down, but also standing at 6'2".. I'm definitely thinking about some sort of trim tabs this winter.

I have not been in a following Sea much these past few months, but I thought mine was a bit more squirelly than my 35 Terry Jason. I'll have to test her out more on the following Sea situation.

Thanks, yes I'm thinking of something to get the bow down. I looked at interceptor type tabs. My concern is the increased drag.

Having 540 hp. More drag might decrease speed and efficiency. This is why I'm thinking of rails from the stern to just before the forward edge of the skeg.

What type of steering does your boat have ?

We took the boat to the Bahamas this year and was pleased with her performance.

Thanks for sharing! Makes me think kudos to Albin for developing this superior performing keel design for their boat line decades ago.

Interesting article. Who wrote it? I can't say I believe everything stated...as fact. But it is always good to hear another viewpoint. Thanks for posting.

I am not bashing, but doesn't the visibility of backstabber look a bit tough? Seems like the house could have used another 6-12" for viewing angles only.

Thank you sir, I take that as a high compliment! Absolutely stunning vessel you have there. Funny, I was just talking about your boat with a buddy on my dock the other night. Beth Ann is famous! We will likely make it to P town some weekend this summer, I hope to cross paths with you.
