Was out there Friday night through yesterday. One other boat, no herring, didn't mark anything.

Running back from groundfishing yesterday afternoon and 5 miles off the beach the water blows up around us with 1/2 dozen YUGE knuckles, must have run up on a school just under the surface. 2 miles after that see some more pushing water then start jumping on macks, looked like school sized fish but had some fairly decent marks down deep at the same time.

If it wasn't my boy's 2nd bday, would have been turning and burning at the dock, loaded with heavy artillery. Now just gotta convince this afternoons striper trip we should be chasing Charlie out the cool breeze rather than tossing macks against the hot shoreline....

Nice, be fore warned Jefferies is loaded with doggies right now from tip to curl. They were following the haddock right up to the transom today. Might want explore inshore options for a few days.

I will confirm the Dogfish! Spent the night on north jefferies. 3am I got into serious bait around the boat. Mackerel, Herring and squid. First baits I put out at daybreak I got 3 30+ inch pollock. After that it was dogfish. I packed up and moved around going south, the fingers to the curl were schools of dogfish.

Had the afternoon free & 2 tides, so scratched together a crew and hit an inside bump. Looked fishy. Though instead of doggies chomping our baits; we had squid attacks. Thats less than an hour soak on the 22 & 26 fathom macks.

After the 10-15kt forecast built to a brisk 30kt summer breeze and anchor started dragging, we chalked it up to a shake down cruise and headed her west.

Was wondering what why you burn the belly of the mackerel? I’ve never seen that before.
