Got the head mostly installed. Just gotta secure the macerator and wire it to a keyed switch. Also got the crash bulkhead mostly done, all that’s left with it is some sanding and tabbing it to the sides. The foredeck still needs a bit of glass work, which I hope to tackle on Friday, then it’s time to paint. We also ran a steering line and got to play around in the bilge.

As soon as I can get hauled out we are going to replace and move the steering ram. It’s currently inaccessible unless you drop the rudder and I simply don’t like that. Also on the haulout list is the stuffing box, rudder bearing, cutlass bearing and steaigtening out the prop. Haulout places are booked 1-6 months so I’ll have a week to do it all, fortunately I will have some hired help.

Nice work. Looking at the rudder supports and all the associated fitting tells me that you get water down below deck. Leaking hatches maybe or the rudder gland?

All that moisture will make more work for you in the long run, see if you can find the source while you are doing all this good work. It will be time well spent.

It doesn’t seem to get too wet down there. I don’t think that they’ve been changed out for Atleast 15 years, as is the case with the stuffing box.

Got freshwater out in, just waiting on switches. Wall is glassed in and the inside part is sanded, and anchor well is complete. Ole girl sitting waiting to get hauled out.

Prop pulled yesterday and dropped off to be straightened and she was pressure washed

We removed the ram today, the pins had to be cut out so I had to squeeze under the deck and reach around the stringer to unbolt it. Hence my handy dandy wrench on a string. New pillar bearing for the rudder. We cut out the box for the prop access, I’m going to level and cut some more out next dry day and then resin and glass it some more. We finished glassing in the cabin today. Little lady wet out the fabric while I applied and squeezed the air out. She was also kind enough to do the fillets while I sanded some rougher spots of the bottom paint. She needs another layer of paint and will probably get a better paint job next year. Tomorrow since it’s going to rain all day I may cut more of the box if I can catch a rain break and I plan to uncouple the shaft from the engine so we can replace the stuffing box with a dripless one. We are also going to relocate the ram where the box for the prop cutting was to make it accessible from the hatch

Trying to get the flange off the shaft is kicking my ass. Aside from a rose bud any suggestions?

Use some thin wedges, then a little lube in the crack. I use CorrosionX, but others will work. There could be set screw below the main set screw. The outer set screw acts like a lock nut, will need a hex key for the inner. However that is more of a machinery usage than marine.

Also put a spacer, smaller than the shaft, forward of the coupler. Then rebolt the coupler to the transmission, and it will act like a press. Just make sure the space does not hit the key.

Finally got her! I found some scrap steel in the yard and made my own puller

Trying to wire up this Fireboy xintex does it matter on the extinguisher which is the ground? And from what I understand terminal 5 goes to the extinguisher and to a ground, correct? Ie 4 and 5 on the panel don’t matter which they go to on the extinguisher

Terminal 5 goes to pressure switch. Terminal 5 also has a negative DC wire attached to it. The pressure switch shouldn’t care about the polarity.

Didn’t think so! I appreciate the confirmation!

Nothing notable to add from yesterday, I started a few things but didn’t wrap them up. I did find a Bruno in the yard

No photos so far today, been arguing with Insurance over some of the stupid things that they require. Be sure to look over yawls policies, I had a reject to bind because I did not have a professional extinguisher company come and mount my extinguishers for me. They have it in the fine print that a professional extinguisher company must come annually to weigh and inspect extinguishers and that all extinguishers must be installed by a company whose primary business is installing maintaining and selling fire protection equipment and that said company cannot be the insured
