My wife and I are looking for a trailerable boat for rivers and bays in midcoast Maine. She is a scientific illustrator with an emphasis on aquatic species, and I work as a writer covering fisheries issues, so this is mostly intended as a work boat. We both fish a lot, however, so whatever boat we get will be fished hard. :) Solid reliability is critical.

We are looking at several boats, and one is an 18' Eastporter powered with a 40 HP Tohatsu. Neither of us know anything about Eastporters, and we're hoping someone here might be able to tell us if this boat should be on our short list.

Thanks in advance.

If that's in Bangor, I looked at it. Run away. It sunk previously (motor too). Much of the boat has been re-worked poorly. Everything that can be rotted, is. You can peel chunks of the deck out through an inspection port. The seller just slapped some paint on it and is apparently expecting someone not to notice that it's a complete basket-case.

Thank you for saving me the trip. The search continues....
