FWIW as a general interest............

Here's some pictures of the v-drives that were attached to the 13,000 hr. Yanmar 370s I posted on a different thread.

The gears have 20,000 on them...the Yanmar 370s were the 2nd set of engines attached to the gears. The gears are fine and will be rebuilt as a spare pr. for the new motors going into the boat.

Wow, 20K hr that's cool.

ZF is the premier drive company in the world, hands down. Not just boat drives but bull dozers to mining gear too. I drove by the plant in Friedrichaven one time on the autobon and it took easy 5 min at autobon speed. They are right next to the Zeppelin plant of Hindenburg fame. They still make Zeppelins there too.

Southern Germany is a mecca for all things mechanical.

Bill, I like the adjustable mounts on that drive, now i see the engines are soft mounted but assume by the outline there is no drivesaver or other flex mount to the flywheel. What am i missing?
Its remote mounted using a driveshaft with u-joints. The same reason you don't need a "flex mount" between your cars engine/transmission package and the rear axle.

you are missing the "blue" thing attached to the yanmar flywheel. you could call it a $2500 "drive saver" if you like

We've used a few ZF gearboxes on our equipment. We spec 100,000 hrs for the gear life and 30,000 hours on bearings, depending on the reduction. All custom built to fit our needs. Good quality here.

I note the exhaust risers probably one of the big reasons those motors went so far.
