I am having a problems keeping the oil pressure up with my Perkins 210. When I shift from forward to reverse or vise versa the oil pressre dumps and the engine stalls out.
I am giving the engine plenty of time to idle before shifting, it is not a matter of shifting to fast.
I have also been having issues with bad feul over the past week, could they be related?
Thanks, Jack.

You'll probably get a dozen replies to this, let me tell you this. I am marine engineer and its how I earn a living.

If you are having oil pressure issue's be VERY CAREFUL, even at low speed the lack of oil pressure can cause damage. I've seen damage to engines simply because people tried to keep testing the engine without getting proper lubrication.

When you first start up the engine, is the pressure lower than it was in the past just sitting there at idle?

Off to West Marine...

First address the oil pressure, are you going by the guage on the dash or a test sending unit ? if your going by the guage on the dash, get a oil pressure test kit, and then get your readings

I love those kits! I just wish I hadn't bought one before HF came along. I have a 8mm boroscope that I love for engines and other things.

As a mechanic myself, its no where near the quality of a snap on or MAC unit. However for leaving it on your own personal boat. Its perfectly fine.
