I recently purchased a 22 beals Island. The boat performs well, but I am always looking for a way to improve. Would installing trim tabs make any major difference in the way she performs?

I really like trim tabs on smaller boats. They help stabilize uneven loads, and push the bow down in a wind chop.

Smart Tabs

Has anyone here installed Smart Tabs (gas actuators-not electric) on your vessel? My friend installed them on his Grady and really likes the performance. About $130 and an easy install. Thoughts?

thanks for the input guys.. gives me somethng to do in the off season. I had an old 1977 24 foot blackfin and it was time for her to retire... I spent alot of time looking for a quality hull and I have to say that this 22 calivin beal has more then exceeded my expectations.. The ride, the room, the layout, the stability on the drift and when I am trolling for bass is top notch.

Years ago, I had a 22' Midland that was powered by a 140hp Volvo-Penta inboard-outboard. I installed hydraulic trim tabs on her to improve handling.

They worked great on balancing uneven loads and even better on keeping the bow down at slow speeds.
