hi, does any one have any opinions on a 1983 ,or later 22 foot sisu bass boat.it has an outboard designed hull where its keel tapers upward just before the transom. are they considered decent built boats?are they known for good ,bad ,or just ok handling in a following,or head sea? any other sisu owners out there? thanks aweigh again

These boats are great. The hulls are still being produced as a grey barn 22, lowell 22 , and up in canada as a rosborogh 22. I have a 22 sisu inboard that i recently repowered with a diesel. I can't say enough about them.

1978 - 22' Sisu

I have 22' Sisu which I purchased in new London CT. and had it brought to my shop in Edmonton, AB , Canada where I restored the gal. The Sisu is one of the finest boats of this size ever designed and built. Great hull - great speed (if needed) and great stability. I use it over on the west coast (San Juan islands,) Georgia Strait. My Sisu is a beautiful boat ! My wife refers to her as the other women.

hi, sisu 4 fun, what kind of restore work did you do to your sisu? is your boat an outboard?, inboard? is it comfortable in a beam ,or following sea?

It is a great boat in all the above, as it is quick and maneurverable and that alone lets you handle the seas, within reason of course. It has a 140hp Suzuki 4stroke outboard - powerful and light engine..
My restoration work consisted of stripping the cabin as it is mahogany that needed the brightwork redone after so many years of just adding varnish over varnish. Then I went out and chased down bronze cleats, mooring bitts etc., and then rewired her and new fuel tanks and fuel hose.
It is a hobby and/or therapy.

hi , 1st of all, i really love my sisu, but has anybody with one, experienced the feeling of a wave pushing the bow from the rear quarter? it can get whip whatever is in the rear of the boat around.i have learned to keep my stern in contact with the water,as much as possible under those conditions. i am still trying to figure out what exactly causes this, and how to totally eliminate this condition

I have a SISU 22 with a 115OB. The reason the boat whips around is due to the keel catching or walking. One side of the keel is being pushed by the wave. There is no cure. I am going to increase my prop pitch next year and also add trim tabs but I do not think these two fixes will eliminate the keep walking. My recommendation would be to slow down and drive with an active hand on the wheel. In time you will get used to driving the boat and be able to react faster to keep the boat on an even keel.

I have been caught a few times. I don't find it scary since I have had the same experience sailing. You just need to stay on top of it and drive the boat. Don't let the boat drive you.
