Picked up this 22 Midland this weekend. ( Vinnie’s fault ). Boat is layed up pretty heavy , unlike the 19’s. Hull and washboards are solid , floor isn’t perfect , transome is wet and is only 20” so I would change that anyway. Not sure what direction I’m going to go with this yet. Here are a few picks I took , there were other pics taken , please add them . That’s a full size trash can in boat .

That is quite an awesome hull! Close the stern and go with a bracket? You have a nice clean slate to work with either way.

Did a drive by on your boat about a half hour ago, beautiful! Sure would love to see that hull and washboard copied into a set of new molds. I wonder if the original molds still exist? I have no problem driving up to Tiverton to see, just don't remember exactly where it was. Close to 30 years since I was there.

    Best,

    Frank

If you ever decide on re-popping those boats I'll take hull #1. Seriously. Thanks.

Do you have any idea if the mold still exists?

    Thanks,

You would have to ask Pyrofan about the mold. He is a member on the forum

    Al and Tuckerman,

This thread on the Midland 22 is the first one I have run across in recent times. Does anyone know how many Midland 22 hulls were built?

I was fortunate to find the original cedar strip planked hull that Al Wilcox built as a plug for the Midland Boat Company and restored her. See this thread about the restoration: Need Help in Determining the Origin/Builder of this Work Boat

Al christened her the "Paula W" back then.

In the restoration process over the last 3 years at Whiskey Island Marina, there has been a huge amount of favorable comments on the hull shape up here in Cleveland Ohio on Lake Erie. In the 1980's, the TowBoat US contractor in Cleveland, Ohio brought this boat to Lake Erie ( TowBoatUS Cleveland ).

After seeing the restored boat, the owner of TowBoat US told me that she often piloted the Wilcox 22 in 6 to 8 ft seas, towing a disabled boat. She said, "You would get wet, but she would get you home!"

The boat presently is used as a safety boat up her in Cleveland at Whiskey Island One-Design. I am building a T-Top for her this winter.
