24' Renegade Privateer

That time of year again finally, I as well am doing a facelift/ minor refit on my 24' Privateer as well.
1983 24' Privateer renegade 2006 f225hp Yamaha
Fuel tank has already been replaced 10yrs ago.

Plan of attack for this spring is:
Strip the bottom, re-barrier coat n paint
Fill and repair any scratches and cracks on hull and house
Imron the hull and cabin top
Fix a crack on the back of the roof top
Paint the inside of the cabin n wheelhouse
Then go fishing!

The inside work may not get done till the boat is back in the water
Target date beginning of May

Looks like it might not hurt to raise your WL too.

What do you do with that? Charter or recreational? You have a fleet!

The waterline is going to be raised up esp in the front 1/3 of the boat. The glass is so porous that as soon as water from Northport harbor see's it, it yellows. The WL will come up a little and the hull will be painted black so it wont be too noticeable.
Fleet indeed. I may have to thin one out to bring in a newer addition.

Hull is yellow but the fishing is good by the power plant!

Its been a couple weeks since the begining photos.
Since then I have glassed, faired, raising the waterline, from the rubrail up I have layed the first coat on(primer if you will, which the gelcoat drank rite up) and tomorrow will start the hull with its first coat of black. I know black is a painters nightmare but I like the challenge and am not selling the boat so as long as it looks good from 5ft away Dad will be happy.

Thanks toolate. I only raised the waterline 2" from where the old line was. Here are a few more photos. My primer was just a real thin coat of Imron. The old gelcoat on the boat sucked it all in.
The topsides from the rubrail up have two coats of white, and I layed the 1st coat of black on the hull.
For a Novice like myself I am very pleased with the 1st coat of black. I know Black is the most stubborn color to work with. Perfect and proffesional, well by no means am I professional. I'll let you all be the critique. Dont worry I can take it..

Did you scuff sand the house and topsides before paint? Just curious. That boat looks SO much better in black.

Thanks everyone for the compliments. I sanded the entire boat with 220 then 320 or 330 which ever the 300 number was. I may still be a lil buzzed from the paint n thinners

I applied the second coat of black yesterday and unfortunately had a little too much moisture in the air. I'll be wet sanding the hull and prob laying one more coat down when the weather cleans up again.

I have the hull to Finnish, A little sanding on the bottom to smooth out the 32yrs of brushed on bottom paint, Lay down durabek on the caprails(light grey), get the lettering back on for reg numbers and name of boat on the sides. Then I'll have the motor serviced and oil's changed all goes well I'll splash her by the tenth of May. Just in time for the stripers to show up our way.

First run of the season

Sorry it has been a while since I have logged on, but with a new job I have been working I havent been at my desk much. Here is a photo or two. I know Fiberglassmagic has alot more and some really nice shots of her. I am very happy with how she looks in the water. Have also received many nice compliments including "I love the new boat, when did you buy it"

Thanks Doc, This weekend I'll be running her to Milford and doing some fishing on the way. So far 2 members of my YC have already said the new boat looks great . Its amazing how some people miss the details of an old girl.

Yup, nothing like a boat in Bristol condition.. And while dark color hulls can be a pain, they really add to the overall appeal. We got a thumbs up yesterday in Manhasset Bay by a couple on a Hinckley Pilot.. Not bad.
