looking to find out if anyone here owns one, could tell me about the ride and boat,
are the manufacturer specs on HP and speed realistic, they claim certain speed with hp. is this a reality?

how does it handle at higher speeds, any keel walk, and how does it do in a following sea.

looking to get into a small de hull for my bay and near shore fishing

I have a bigger de now that I use for offshore fishing. I need something faster to replace my seacraft that I now use after work by myself , the after work boat needs some speed. not enough time to get where I want to go at 15 knts. like with the big boat.

Look at the General Marine 26's for sale on this site... They will give you what you want but need more than the 200HP I just sold. If you wanted to push the cruise it would be 18.5 on a 200HP, I know the 250HP or higher do better. Great sea boat and fished it everywhere...

Yes, I know you asked about Duffy's, but looking at the Duffy 26, got me to buy my GM26 for 4 years of happiness...

GLA, I own a 2005 26 Duffy. She has the 260HP Yanmar, same block as the 315. It will do 25 knots wide open, but 20 is a nice cruise speed. Handles fine at high speeds also in following seas. The 26 General is a good boat but lets face it the Duffy has some sweeter lines to her.

I dont know about the sweeter lines bit... I've never seen one offshore fishing, okay, so maybe one... Just kidding, they all are... Have any pictures of yours? I need to make sure I dont have to eat these words as I was looking at one a while ago for a project...

How does the duffy 26 compare to the BHM 25? In terms of beam at transom, and speed and handling and whatnot?

You might want to check out the Newman and Gray website. Look at their boats for sale. They have a real nice Duffy 26 for sale. I believe they finished the boat. I have been on this boat and it handles well in tough conditions and moves along nicely. Josh and Ed Gray are real nice folks too. A day at their shop on Crabberry Island is worth the ride to Northeat Harbor, Maine. Good Luck.

Duffy 26 Ride

I do remember that day out to Cranberry and it was a little snotty! I own Newman and Gray Boatyard on Cranberry Island, Me and also run a Duffy 26 year around out to the Cranberry Isles as a 6 pack water taxi. I finished off the Duffy 26 kit boat 3 years ago. I had them use the older deck mold they had for fishing boats that puts the main bulkhead 15'6" from the transom and cut the roof of the pilothouse off and use the mold for the new roof. This gives the eyebrow and nice overhangs all the way around. Also makes a big cockpit for a 26' though you sacrifice space under the trunk cabin. The boat has a Volvo-Penta gas 5.7L with a 2.5:1 reduction gear spinning a 19" x 19" wheel. It is not a light boat as it has a solid glass hull and a douglas fir platform but it does 30 knots WOT. I usually cruise at 13-14 knots at 2800. I dont have a flo scan but when I ran the computer on the engine is said so far I was getting 3.5 gph with currently 1600 hours. A good boat for most days though with 6 people on board in a following sea it can be a bear to handle. But in my opinion its the best looking boat compared to others in its class (BHM 25, T Jason 25, GM 26, Webber Cove 26, Sisu 26, Ellis 24).

Beautiful boat. I love original designs. in the last picture on your website with the boat on the railway, there is a whitepatch at the back end of the keel. What is that?

thanks,

Thank you! Can't wait to run her next spring! She is headed to the shop for new fuel tanks and other miscelaneous minor repairs.

Just had not painted the bottom paint on that section yet. The boat got the bottom painted before I was done with fiberglassing the stern tube in.
