One of the lucky ones.... Just sold my boat looking for another!
I was checking out a 1985 28 with 380 yanmar 1600 hours 16kt cruise for sale man what rugged boat! From what I've read they weigh like 12000 lbs! Any thoughts? What's it worth? It's clean new electronics and the engine is super well maintained.

Yanmar 380 and only 16kt? I have a 36 with 420 and cruise around 17 depending on tide. Harris didn't build many but Nauset bought the mold, now they're the 28 nauset. Tons of those out there to compare to for a price. Good luck-

I think that's 600 of the top. But it's heavy from what I've read the fiberglass tends to be over and inch thick and it looks like a tank!

I have the 28' Nauset Command bridge version (Harris Hull). Great ride and great sea boat ! Cruise speed seems low. With 250 HP I get an easy 18 knot cruise.

its a great boat. had one for 10 years that i repowered with 3126 cat 350hp and put 1250 hours on. boat is heavy for a 28. she goes good in all sea conditions. my boat would top out at 23.5kt and cruise around 17. it took a while to get the prop right but we ended up with a custom zf 21x19 with elephant ears.

Pretty sure I saw your boat (old boat) @ Orient by the sea marina in Orient Point, NY. a couple weeks ago. Stopped there for lunch & took a peek at her, nice ride. When we left, he was also steaming out & I grabbed a nice pic of her, which I will post up shortly.......

Good boats

Good boats. Most likely a 370 Yanmar mechanical Motor the 380 is big money and electronic. We did a 28 with a 370 Cummins & 1.5 gear 20 knots on the cruise. The speed is way off. The boat should have a 1.77 gear and a wheel of about 22 X 21. If not it may be geared wrong. With a 2.0 gear you would be slower because you would not be able to swing the correct wheel. What size wheel & gear?

as larry atated a 2:1 is not good for that boat. when we repowered we had to go with a 1.5 gear on a 2800rpm engine. the boat does not have the clearence for a 22 inch prop, it gets too much vibration. we found the cuctom zf to work better for that particular hull. the boat should be around 23-24kts wide open. also many of these boats have the prop very close to the keel wich may effect the water flow to the prop creating a large amount of slip.
