I have noticed our 28 Legacy has a list to port that I cannot figure out. Our holding tank is empty, our fuel tanks are filled equally with fuel, and the area under the stern port hatch has nothing in it, nor for the that matter either does the starboard side. We have 2 batteries one on port & one on starboard. Under way the boat handles fine. I also made sure that the dock lines were not pulling her over as we dock stern to on the port side. If anyone has seen this on other legacy's or could give me some direction as to why this has happened. I would greatly appreciate it.

The first thing I would do is determine how much weight is needed to level it. And don’t place the weight on the gunwale , place it 1-2‘ inward.

Yes to level it out is a lot less than needed. I’m sure it is nothing more than a normal annoyance but it is nice to grab the tabs and use them uniformly when you want to run then adjust accordingly, i have a 60/80 pound dormor that I bought for cheap plus I put in a granite table in my settee now my boat always sits straight 24/7

I’ve played with that in my novi, my GW…any boat that sits evenly is adjusted or just sheer luck

I'll say, right or wrong, building my boat I put the err of extra weight on port. With helm on starboard, it will be better balanced in use where often 2x guys are standing on that side.

Most likely you've got something like a bunk, kitchenette, or just gear you aren't thinking of, stored on port. Or that's how they balanced it along the same thinking.

But you could move that battery over if you really care. Easy enough to test and check results.

Has this always been the case? Have you confirmed there is no water trapped in a portside area of the bilge? A blocked limber hole?

Thank you all of you for the replies, I will try some of the suggestions to see if I can balance her out, and try to contact some Legacy owners to see if they have experienced the same issues.

to correct it. The most effective way is to shift weight, not add. Suggest moving one of your batteries to the high side. That will double your moments to right.

Or, if your holding tank is on the starboard side. Take a shit and fill her up... :p

I have the same model boat. On Port side, holding tank (got to be one hell of a shit to correct list) 4 D battery and a 60 gal. diesel tank. Starboard is same minus holding tank. Some models have a spot for a generator in place of holding tank on starboard. I would check transom for moisture as well . Pull out back lounge and get a moisture meter back there. If you can`t find the cause, gain weight and balance the boat out yourself. Good luck

You haven't seen Genius shit. If you have the same Model and don't have a list then he has an issue. I'd lean toward the foam getting wet. Moisture meters are very difficult to interpret. You have to know all materials and the thickness of all materials for starters. If you don't have that info then they are about as useful as tits on a bull.

I bought a used aft cabin Ocean Alexander and discovered 400 lbs of lead under the bed. When I reconfigured the battery bank and airconditioning, it leveled out the boat and I was able to offset the cost of the new bank by selling the lead.

Thats true, I have not seen that. I have a slight list and never thought twice about it. Put a lard ass on the starboard side and all is well

Thank you for the info we are going to do a moisture check to rule that out (hopefully) and then proceed from there. I really cannot remember if this was an issue before, we have her for 9 seasons now and it only came to our attention last season.
I wish I could reach more owners to see if they noticed anything like this, again thanks

I have the same boat. Listing
is not an issue. Big issues I have are keeping the bulges dry. Should have had limber holes and a drain plug.
