28 Northern Bay Stretch 2’

Hey guys, was planning on building a 33’ flowers but gonna hold off until I’m more confident in the economy and the cost of materials. Plan B is holding on to my NB 28 and stretching it 2’. She is pretty good in a following sea. In good conditions she actually speeds up if I trim the bow down. I’m hoping I will pick up a knt or 2 and get more cockpit space. The running gear will stay in place and hoping it won’t effect her too much in a following sea.Not doing the work my self, gonna have the guys at Cape Codder Marine do it. Any knowledge and experience in this size boat would be greatly appreciated. Also I feel like it needs another 2’ to look proportional with the house, could just be me though.

A friend did to 28 BHM she tough in a following sea, a lot of extra miles.

If the NB 28 is not a stretched version of a 25 already (like a BHM is) I think you will be fine. The larger cockpit will look nice too.

The 28 is it’s only breed, not a stretched 25. It should go well with some more waterline length.

The 28 BMH is the result of too much booze, the 31 BHM blueprints, a pair of scissors & a roll of scotch tape.

Travis’s dad Keith was one of the guys involved.

Ahhh OK. I thought it was a stretched version of the 25 with no real design work involved to create the 28. I stand corrected.

Hopefully you will no longer need the trim tabs. I suspect that boat's performance overall will be improved, and the extra 2' will be greatly appreciated while fishing.

X2. And why stop at 2 feet? More length, the better. You will pick up a knot and get a smoother ride and better efficiency.

Nope.
I don’t claim to be a naval architect but I know lots about cars and race cars.
It’s all about the pivot point.
Look at it this way.
Drag strip cars are meant to fast as hell but straight down the track.
Long & narrow.
NASCAR cars don’t go as fast because they go around in oval circles.
Imagine running a drag strip car around an oval Trac & 200 mph.
Get under a 28 bhm & see where the running gear is and compare to the 28 Northern bay.
I’ve said this many times about the 26 Webbers cove.
The boat is awesome in a following sea.
The back edge of the rudder is about even with the transom.
Add in there’s a slight V to the bottom
(Same as the 28 Northern Bay)
The boat is awesome in all seas.
28 bhm the running gear is too far forward & the bottom is very flat.
I would bet adding more length would make the bhm worse.

Extending the hull two feet would help the rudder be shaded by the hull. For boats in the water most of the year, shaded rudders pick up less slime and growth.
