I have been looking into these. Its at the top of my list for my next boat. So far I have heard nothing but good things about them but I want to hear from some more guys who own them and have worked them. Who has one and what can you tell me about them??? Any numbers??? Thanks

The 29 H&H is one of three hulls I'm considering for a build.
I have sea trials lined up in a week or two on two different 29's.

The 29 H&H is "maybe" the best hull Osmond Beal designed for the Hutchins brothers (H&H) in the lineup.

Terry Hutchins, who sold H&H and is now retired, has his 29 H&H in Key West to "putter/fish" with. I've spoken to him half dozen times about the Osmonds. His 29 has a 420 Iveco, 2:1 gear spinnng a 24X35 four blade. According to Terry the boat cruises @ 24 knots @ 2500 rpm all day long.

The hull is 29'8" and IMO the biggest 30 footer available. Good headroom in the forward cabin.

H&H can layup the hull & top different ways. You could add to the shear, extend the top/house, raise the top etc.

The 29 also can handle speed without getting "wiggly".

The JAKL (Jakl.com: The Best Search Links on the Net) does 30 mph with a 440 Yanmar, 2:1 gear, 24X26 four blade.

One of the requirements for my DE build will be a "stable cruise speed" seas permitting of a minimum of 22 knots. The 29 H&H can do the speeds and more safely.

The 32 H&H will give you "more boat", but I've talked @ length with three long term owners, two are charter guys with 440 Yanmar power. Both have commented that the 32 "likes" 18 knots...get it up over 20+ knots and they get wiggly. I have sea trial setup for one of these boats too.

FWIW, "not much" :D

here's a few pics of 29 H&Hs

take note of the last pic of the JAKL. That is a 440 Yanmar "under the helm deck"

AS TIGHT AS IT LOOKS ! but there are hatches on both sides and the owner has Yanmar take care of the motor.
1500+ hours on it.

btw, the FPT NEF 6.7 is about 1-2 inches taller and a wisker wider than the Yanmar 440. The Cummins QSB another 1-2 inches taller than FPT.

Bill any idea what they get for fuel economy? Compared to 28bhm? I'm one of those poeple who MIGHT be in the market in a COUPLE years:D. I'm sure our friend up in Alaska will chime in with some good remarks for this hull

Not sure on fuel economy of the 29 H&H. The 29s I have access to sea trial have mechanical engines and unless the boats have Flow Scans then gph at various load and speeds is a rough guess.

The 28 BHM is a nice boat but just a bit too small for my liking.

Any DE I build needs to offer a steady 22-23 knot cruise when I want and not pound or loosen everyone's teeth on board in a heavy chop or moderate sea and not tear the guts out of the engine to get the speed.

Calvin Beal"s new 30 footer is nice. Not sure what the boat will look like yet, hull #1 is not out yet and I'm not sure if Stew has a top done for the new 30 yet? I heard through the DE grapevine that Calvin Beal himself is getting hull #1?

I have always admired that black DE boat had no idea it was a H&H. Do you know who built it?

Ok. But does anyone who works there boat for a living have any input??? I'm not looking at these for A pleasure yacht. This is gonna be a work boat. Not 400HP and shiney paint.
Anyone out there have one set up as a lobster boat. Maybe with a 220 Deere. That is the power that i will be using, what kind of numbers do you get and how does she handle.

Is this better ? 29 w/a 300 Deere. I run it at 2000-2200 and get 14-17 knots cruise burning 8-10/gal/hour.

I'm working on adding a split house addition to make the house a bit more warm and dry.

When you say a 300 Deere do you mean a 300 HP Deere???? Or an older 300 series Deere. Also what are you running for a gear and prop. And how well does she do in the shit??? I'm sure that you have had her out in some nasty weather being in Alaska, right? P

I love these boats. I would trade my boat that I just re-powered for one of these hulls in need of a re fit at the drop of a hat. If any one knows of one that's just sitting in someone's yard with a blown up engine. Please let me know. It would need to be a work boat finish, not a pleasure yacht. I need a bigger lobster boat. I have a 26' webber cove that I am putting a completely rebuilt John Deere in and a newer twin disc 5050. She's also been completely re wired and re plumbed.
