Trying to compile a list of 29' to 32' hard chined Downeasters. Any input would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Frank

29 Webbers Cove has a rounded hard chine kind of deal, and the 32 Wayne Beal does as well, I believe. The 30' Pettegrow is a hard chine, like a mini wesmac.

FYI depending on your budget, just about any hull can be “converted” to a hard chine.

Thanks for that, Jerry. Trying to keep it at new world designed downeasters.

I have heard that this boat is back in production in Belfast Maine. Mine is the prototype and was called a Blackhorse 32, but the later glass hulls were called 33s.

Fortier. My boat is nearly the exact hard chine hull. I like it.

I know the Blackhorse 33' molds were for sale a few years ago, seems like a great design, do you know who is building them now?

I am not sure who is the builder. There was a mention of the boat in the 2018 Boats of the Year edition of Maine Homes and Boats.

Eastern, but I believe it was the JC 31 Hull.

Gus Skoog of Vinalhaven built six hard chine lobster boats (late '60s - early '70s?), three 28's and three 34's. I started fishing on one of the 28s. It had the classic Skoog stem line and topsides lines but the hull looked very much like a design from Harkers Island with hard chines, hog over the propeller, and herring-bone plank bottom. Not very fast with the four cylinder Ford diesel but very seaworthy. I've never seen a 34 or the other two 28s. I keep mentioning it here hoping someone can shed some light on the mystery.

    Sockeye:

Kind of a tease to not have a photo of one of those Gus Skoog hulls as an illustration. I suppose you would have posted one if available.

    Thanks for the informed response.

The 31 Eastern and 32 Judge are built from JC molds. The Judge has a slightly different keel. Captain Larry would be all over this.
