29 Vineyard Hawk

Just picked up this 29 Hawk. From what I gather she was finished in CT somewhere. Plan is to yank the 210 Cat and put in a 480 yanmar I have at the shop. Plan on lobstering and ground fishing it.
I was stuck on a 31 BHM for a while but I think this is a better fit for what I want to do with it..

I may start a build Thread when I get her here
Anyone ever own one? My dad and I ran one when I was a kid but we dragged clams with it.

Yup that’s the one, coming home Valentine’s Day.
Plan is to put the yanmar in with a new gear, prop should be pretty close as I’m going from a 2/1 gear to a 1.5/1

Add a weather back and wheelhouse sides, I really like the engine is out of the pilothouse and on deck, it will serve me well as a working platform

Replace the original rack steering with hydraulic steering and get fishing

The cap needs some work, deck is “new” but not finished underneath tanks are new but only 60gallons each. At some point I’ll do the deck over but she’s got to earn it first

Great choice for your use. She's going to fly. Different layout but I seem to remember our Canyon 30 cruised 24kts with twin 240 perkins. She'll be much happier in Buzzards Bay with a set of Zipwakes on the back.

She’s probably never gonna see BB, slip is in sandwich she will by my CCB/Stellwagen Ride. Still keeping the Hunt

Definitely not a hunt, my current boat is a hunt Surfhunter

Wheel is going away for a hydraulic steering system it’s conventional rack and pinion cable steering now

I will keep this thread alive for sure

That boat was used in a marine construction business. Those hawse pipes were for hipping up to work barges

Had a little time this AM to remove the old wiring and controls. I feel better about it already.

HMM memory lane and the start of the Downeast Boat path after the catching the Tuna disease!! I had the mold for the hawk that they glassed and sold and ended up as B. Cliffords dive boat before I got it. Had single 555 Cummins that i pulled and put a 3208N then later put a 3208T 320 that really made the boat come to life. Was caught in an offshore front with all of18FT seas one night and still was able to beat a big lobster boat who called to offer cover so lets say the hull is tested. Good luck

Just a question on general. My brother in law had a 31' BHM with a 210 hp Perkins. He sold it and the new owner put a 425 hp CAT in it and it changed the way boat rode. I'm guessing because it was set up for 210 hp and with the 425 made it ride bow down. Are you going to have a issue like that?

nice little boat , there must be big money in lobster's with all these million dollar boats ! it might tempt some of the Chesapeake cowboys to switch gear
