I'm quite familiar with these boats. The general manager of Sisu Boat Company in Dover, NH, was Peter Brown. Terrific guy, and when Sisu went out of business, Peter bought the molds for the 30'. Not sure how many were produced, but he knew the business from the inside out, and put together a high quality produce.
All Sisu (Portsmouth) boats are balsa end-grained cored. I believe the company inserted "hockey pucks" at the thru-hull openings in the mold, to eliminate water intrusion into the core. When you survey any cored hull, be particularly cautious of this area.
I just came across a Portsmouth 30 that represents an EXCEPTIONAL buy, in my opinion! Here are the specs:
* 1990
* 3208T Cat
* 800 hrs from brand new
* Spotless bilge and engineroom
* Northern Lights 5kw Generator
* AC/Heat
* 9 out of 10 overall
There are a ton of pictures available. The boat is in FL, and a trucker will deliver anywhere in the US at $3/mi plus tolls. Price: $39,900 FIRM.
I've been around DownEast boats for 3 decades, and know all the Royal Lowell designs. This boat is truly a STEAL at that price! However, you have to put a deposit on the table immediately, as there are currently (as of Tuesday afternoon, 12 February at 1515) 6 others looking at her. She could be yours to tie up, if you act right now. Call me, Larry Bussey, at 603 433-3222.
