Makes me wonder how stable it is with a 14/16' tower? That is the one I see down in Sandwich Marina which seems like forever. We all know how great the Holland 32 is.

Any input?

Grave digging this post. So say someone bought one and put a moderately high HP gasser in it. What size wheel can they swing and does anyone know at what speed they go from fast and fun to death trap lol?

30

the repco 30 was pulled from a plug made by the famous jonesports. The 37's are a well found hull so you don't see many of them for sale. I think at last count they built about a million and a half of the 30's . I like the looks of them and you never hear of problems with the hulls , its usually the decks and houses that rot out on them. What surprises me most is the huge price swing in used repco 30's you can find them from 5 grand to 50 grand. I actually know of someone selling one now thats rigged for tuna . Its in the 15 grand range.

1.5 million built:rolleyes: you sure it wasn't 1.5 cazillion:eek::D

As skinny as the repco is it would be cool to see one built into a center console. If you could get a 30' boat for 5k and put the work into it.

What is the upper end of the speed envelope for the Repco 30?

X2 on BadLatitude's question a few posts up...

A 30 Repco kept light as a day/overnight recreational fishing boat with a gasser in it. How much HP can it reasonably take and what would be a top end speed before it becomes squirrelly or inefficient?

I've been on a number of boats that hit a point speed-wise where they begin to bow steer and become a handful. Other boats seem to hit a wall where adding more power doesn't make them go much faster, they just dig a bigger hole and drag a bigger wake.

Anyone know how fast you can push a light Repco 30 before either of these things happen?

Thanks...Steve2ManyBoats

To be clear I had found one on the cheap with a blown motor. I had no intention of fishing it or even using it for "pleasure". We have a few spare race motors and wanted to do something retarded with one. I was advised against it by the powers that be.

Not a racer here, just an impatient fisherman...

Certainly not looking to set any records, but I am interested in knowing how fast you can push a Repco 30 before manners and efficiency go south.

Stevie Johnson from Long Island maine put a big blown v 8 in one last summer. He did a little mod to the hull, but it looked like a fun boat to play around with. He is always coming up with something. He had a bunch of videos on his facebook page. The boat said" in memory of Skee" on the side, tribute to one of his friends.

In memory of Skee

There is a blurb on this boat and a pic if you scroll down just a bit.

Weird hull extensions on that Repco...

I know a number of folks are making their DEs hard chined - which kind of makes them look and act like a traditional deadrise boat - but I've never seen hull extensions like the ones on the boat in the vid. I've seen some that go all the way to the transom, but not any that ended so far before it. Seems odd that on this boat, since Repco's 30s are so narrow at the transom, they didn't run the extensions all the way aft.

That Repco, the "Elizabeth", sure does run nice, flat and fast. Given that it is supposedly pushed by 1,100 HP, it's clearly way, way outside it's efficiency envelope.

I'm still very interested in learning how fast you can push a stock Repco 30 before it becomes inefficient or misbehaves. It's pretty easy to build a reliable big block putting out 400 hp that you can rack up some hours on. Wondering what a Repco 30 would do with 400 hp or if the boat will be still too much in the water and not on it.

Thanks...Steve2ManyBoats

repco boats

This company was owned by my uncles, Harold Lothrop and Vern Charles. They were in business from 1967 til 1987. If my numbers are correct over 800 hulls were built, most were 30 footers(over 500).Not sure on the 37 but I think around 140 or so. I did a complete refit on the one posted in this thread that was finished off for pleasure use in 2004. She was named LINDA CAROL an we raced her for 4 years, before moving on to our Crowley Beal 33. Great first boat for us.......lots of good trips on her. I built a custom 350 chevy for her an she would hit 30 mph, not too bad for a boat that wasn't supposed to go fast...
