you wont be able to stand up down below unless its a really tall trunk, im 5'4 and keep my head hunched over a little bit. At the helm there is about 6'2 of headroom. Are you looking at the one for sale on craigslist?
nope, saw it and was curious about the lay out, it looks like there is no engine box so the engine must be forward of the bulkhead. I saw another 30yb with a cummins in front of the bulkhead and wondered how much it shrunk up the deck space. if your near boothbay your welcome to check my boat out and get a feel for the size of it.
Thanks for the offer. Unfortunately i don't get up that way too often. I also noticed the lack of an engine box also, and wondered the same thing. How does yours handle a following sea? stern quartering sea? is it a wet boat? looks easy enough to single hand.
she isnt too fast, cruise at 14.5 unfortunately, she is heavy in the bow and needs some lightening up, so yeah she is pretty wet at the moment. Ive come home plenty times in a big following sea, never ever felt uncomfortable, just have to pay a little more attention to the helm. It is very easily operated single hand, its perfect for what i do.
after seeing that picture of the sopwith camel (bow and most of the boat out of the water), i'm surprised she's bow heavy how much wood is there in the cabin roof? i looked at a 32 holland that needed a complete topside (cap, wheel house, fordeck, everything was rotted through and through), and i'm hoping that the 30 young's don't have as much wood.
woundup, slow process but currently cutting all the washboard pieces. Over the last few days we cut and installed the beams for the fordeck. Then i think the plan is to make up a new main bulkhead so that we can remove the old one.
No sense doing all the work to rebuild it and leave a shitty old bulkhead in there.
I fish a 30 young brothers for 5 years lobstering I am 5 11 and i had no truble standing at the helm and was bent over down below I had a260 cummins in it she went really good I like the boat just not much deck space
yes it was serenity I raised the deck 2 inches and put that cummins and gear in her then sold it I put 45 traps on her most of the time it was really nice not having an engine box when i first got her she had a small engine boxs that took up some room i got some pictures some were i will have to look for them
i dont run bow high at all, visibility is very good all around, but like i said i am a little bow heavy, i would actually like my boat to come up a few degrees. As far as sitting on the hook, i have a tower on and she rolls pretty good. not too bad with the tower off
