Great Boats

Excellent boats that can run fairly fast and carry a heavy load. There are many of them around and it is too bad they stopped building them. Do you have one in mind?

Thanks Dave. Yes, Sir. I do have one in mind....with permits. Small trap allocation, but enough to start making money and saving for the future. I get some mixed feelings from folks, but always thought the BHM hulls were pretty nice.

A BHM is balls to the wall, can do 15 knots in 8' while bigger boats can't take that beating and need to throttle back, Been there done that for 49 miles. Only thing I would never consider the 32(31) for is a stick boat, the stand will be as high as tower.

Thanks SS. I plan on using the boat for lobstering and fish potting commercially. For that use the boat is good to go, right?

ran one as a stick boat for a few years. with a volvo 63p we would cruise at about 16-17.

the stand was a little high, but not too terrible

I captain one at times during the tuna season and like the boat. It is a unbelievable head sea boat. It is a little squirrly with a following seas compared to the 34 calvin I run. They are not known for being speed demons, but that is not what you buy a downeast for in the first place! The one I run has a 250 cummins and cruises about 14, but is extremely easy on fuel, compared to the 34 calvin which has a 500 and burns twice the fuel to cruise 18. All in all the bhm is a fine contender in its size class! Good luck, by the way, who finished the one your looking at? Important aspect to be asked first in researching any downeast.

nope, it was out of salisbury,ma. the boat is still there.
the new owner changed the stand, and now its lower to the water, the old one worked for us, but it was higher than it should have been.

I got a tour of the Icebreaker this season. Very stout boat & whisper quiet with the insulation package he has in there

Rampage88 was it the older boat BHM 31 or the Crowley-Beal 28...both of them are nice workboats

It was the 31 BHM. I was at a party @ Ralphs Fishing Station in Mt Sinai this summer & the owner Carl gave me a tour of her over a couple beers. Good guy, nice boat. I try to get over to Ralph's a couple times each season, the Davenport family run a nice operation there & thier slipholders there are a great bunch to spend a weekend with......

The "Mary D"

The 31 BHM in Salisbury Ma is a white colored stick boat.

The boat is the Mary D named after the owner's (Danny) mother who past away a few years back.

Great looking boat, as all say a "tank" on water.

Danny is very succesful with the number of giants he gets each season.

I'm pretty sure the power has Volvo power, not sure of the hp.

The boat is on stands directly across from my Blackfin, I'll snap some pics later today or tomorrow and post.

There is another 31 BHM FB I'll get some pics of too.
