I know some other people will chime in...

I just sold my boat, time to time run my brother in laws JC31 as a 6pak boat and its great. Minus the following sea bit. I really like that JC in regards to the helm area and carolina box there are SWEET!!!

Is running the autopilot on the JC31 suicide in a following sea?

Great Charter Boat

Nice rig but check out Captain Larry 84's JC for sale. Boat is very nice and might be in your price range. He used to do some chartering when he first bought the boat.

I run my 31 JC with an auto pilot in following seas and it works well. There obviously is a lot of compensating to be done so I'm not sure if all auto pilots would be able to keep up with it over a long period of time but mine works.

Flybridge

I have to aggree with you but I have fished on Larry's boat and running it from the bridge is nice, especially when tuna trolling. It is worth a look especialy because of the condition.

Good luck with your search

That is a very pretty JC 31. It has the correct power and it is nicely laid out. Most likely built by Skips Marina which was Jack Cadario’s son.

30 K more it is 2001 so I can see why the ask is there. Like most he is waiting for and offer. I would est that boat selling some wher in the high 60s. Maybe less as the market is very poor.

Trim tabs on a JC correct you do not need them. However like any boat they can help trim load and push a bow down in heavy seas but you not need them. In heavy seas just slow down. If I build another it would have them. The tabs on this JC are perfect. They are recessed and out of the way.

F/B if you are on the N/S of the Island correct the F/B is not a plus. But on the Ocean side on those nice day it is a ten. I kept my bridge as a day unit with not a lot on top to keep windage down. There is little up there to effect the handling and it makes for a nice second station. Removal is for the new ower….LOL

Yesterday we sharked and I left in the dark at 430 & no moon. Hopped up on the F/B with no plastic in my face I was at the inlet in no time. A lot quicker that the lower station and radar. However once outside and in clear water a quick retreat the lower helm for the ocean ride out. We had a nice mako by 10 am fished until 12 & came home in 20-25 knots of south wind and the stern quarter. I was able to smoke a cigar, have a drink, side window open, do 15 knots, and my knuckles were not white at the end of the trip. So much for that following sea stuff.

I think the boat is worth looking at if you want a good North shore 6 pack boat. I am sure it will survey well. Plus that boat most likely has the tapered keel which was an added on my Jack Jr. The taper allowed for better water follow to the wheel. Make sure the boat has a big reduction gear. JCs boat need big wheel to run well in following seas and rough weather. The best size wheel on a JC is a 23 X 24 but you need 450 HP. So for a 370 Volvo if geared correctly should be either a 22 X 22, 23 X 21. Anything smaller something is wrong.

Good luck in your search

larry,
I am sure that it was built by Jack and his son Jackie...I sea trialed and almost bought the sistership from those guys back in 01. Skips marine is a friend of Jackie,s and used to build boats with those guys. Either way it is a great boat good luck

Solid!

None of the above. I have one of the very few solid glassed hulled JCs. That was my request and I paid extra for it. The boat was built solid with two extra hull stringers and full cockpit & bow liners also of solid glass. She was built to last. The only coring is in the cockpit solo, foredeck, & hardtop lid. Some construction shots attached.
