Was just talking to him yesterday as a matter of fact. Sadly the Leblanc is first on the list for work. That Jim Beal is a nice hull and would be perfect with a 380ish Cummins in it.

you are correct. very easy to sit in the recliner with the laptop and dream about a rehab rebuild "until" to get the rig is dropped off in your yard.
Then reality sets in

What is the story with the Jim Beal hulls? I see them around from time to time and they always seem to be priced a bit lower than I expect. What is the story?

An old 2012 thread ("Any pics of a Jim Beal?") suggests, as I read it, that the Jim Beal 31-footers were designed by Richard Alley.

Are they just passé for Lobstering, due to not having the beam preferred these days for carrying a big load of pots?

I knew of one with diesel power that was real sneaky when creeping up on Horse Mackerel.

There is a 30’ Jim Beal just about 100 yards or less from my mooring. Runs a 270 Cummins and cruises around 16-17. Simple working lobster boat setup used for conch and sea bass pots.
