I didn't want my question to get lost in the drama bullshit of the original thread . Is the trans a zf 220 ( no down angle ) and if so is it for sale ? Thanks Dennis

Hello Dennis, I know of one for sale without an engine and has less than 600 hours of use on it and is available out of a boat right now. Contact Ken Flower (Mainly Boats on the forum). Peter

Are you just interested in the gear Yanmar?
That is correct just the gear . I've been looking for a 1.5 to 1 ratio ZF 220 Pl . I've talked to Ken Flowers and he will get back to me as far as the one he may possibly have if the owner decides to go a different route .

with no down angle they are rare 220a is all over the place. my dad has a 220 1.5:1 in the garage, i don't think he wants to part with it, but i can ask.

when i got the 2:1 it was the only new 220 in the country. (according to zf)

Isn't the ZF the same as a twin disc? So you could also look for one of those?

What do you mean by "same as?" Different models, different companies, but same sort of reverse gear?

According to ZF HURTH they have one and only one IRM 220 PL in stock . I am not in a rush since i'm remoldling my house , but I have been looking for used gear since January and I see the same ZF gears on e-bay all the time just not what I need

I know what you mean about the down angle gears being more common. When I needed a ZF 280-1 vertical offset gear there was only one in the country. Getting the reverse pump to make it work on my port side 671 was even harder. Had to get that off another gear that the ZF dealer just happened to have in the shop. There were no reverse oil pumps in the country. Sometimes it's a good plan to have a spare clutch. I do have one now, as what you spend to repair a ZF gear is often about as much as buying a new one. Prices for parts are absurd.
