23 sea craft - 31 bertram
i'm looking at 2 boats - a 33 young bro's and a 35 duffy - i got limited experience with down easters - we don't see too many in cape may

looking for opinions from owners - stability - sea keeping abilities - "ride" is a relative term

boat's gonna be fished and fished hard - winter giant fishing in north carolina

I have fished on them all. I have owned a 36 northern bay for the last 13 years and other than building another onevof them, the only other boat in this size class I would own is a 35 Duffy. That Duffy is twice the boat compared to the young bros.

Calvin Beal 36'
I have been fishing a 35 young brothers for the last 10 years. I purchased a 36 Calvin Beal last fall. In my opinion the Young brothers is much better on the drift. It sits lower and has a wet keel which keeps it more steady, opposed to the Beal, which seems a little corky in the rips. On the other hand, the ride on the Calvin Beal is smoother and faster. Dont know about the Duffy, although a friend has one and loves it.

I think they are two great hulls....a lot has to do with what's put above the deck...young brothers is a rock on the drift....Duffy will be better in the head sea...and may roll alittle more....you can't compare a fly bridge Downeaster to a flat out lobster boat....two different animals all together .....that being said I don't think you can go wrong with either of your choices

When I was a kid I fished with a guy who had a 33 YB but moved up to the 35 Duffy. The Duffy is WAY better IMO. With comparable hp and wheel the duffy was faster. The YB was maybe a touch better in a head sea,but as soon as you put the wind on your side or stopped to haul or drift anything unsecured on the YB was flying all over while the duffy always stayed comfortable. And the Duffy feels like its much more than 2 feet larger and a foot wider

Duffy 35
Hello Jerry
We own a Duffy 35 with a John Deere 300HP in her, I wouldn’t go any less HP. We love the boat. Never found a thing about her that wasn’t designed and built well.

If it floats we will be glad to work on it.

Not trying to bash any particular manufacturer or hull. Just stating my opinion based on fact. I never said the duffy is a bad hull, but given the comparison I choose YB. Now if you asked me to choose between 35YB and 35 Duffy I would go with the Duffy.
