Looking at an older 33' YB that needs to be repowered. Currently considering a zero hour reman 3116 Cat and rebuilding the existing tranny. Looking for estimated speed and fuel burn with this set-up. Any insight is appreciated. Thank you.

I'm on a budget and need something around 300-350HP. We used to have a 3126 in a 27 center console several years ago and loved that engine. Have also heard good things about the 3116, so what are the "better options", I am open to suggestions and by no means tied to the Cat.

If you've got a $20K +- in the budget you can buy a brand new FACTORY reman Cummins 330 with a 2 yr. 2,000 warranty.

Many on this forum will agree a much better choice than the CAT 3116

Alot depends on your budget. You can get a rebuilt 3208 for short money, my last one went 18,000 hours without so much as a hickup. Next one had 2500hrs on it when I sold the boat and is still going strong.

I think T&S in Crisfield, MD told me $13,500 for the 320 hp version, but that did not include gauges or a wet elbow. The 320 is turbocharged, but unlike a B series Cummins w/ that much hp, it does not have a saltwater aftercooler. I just put a Recon B series in my boat (31' BHM), but I might have gone w/ a 3208 if the boat was already set up for it. We just got her going last week. The old engine was about played out when I got the boat. The new one has got some ass.

That's what we put in a couple of seasons ago.

Mine was 375hp as well. $12,000 with a one year warranty but this was 8 years ago.

It has a 260 Isuzu with 14k hrs.

Jon, you may want to send (sevenjohn) a private message.
He and his to sons are building a older bare hull 33 YB. He spent some time deciding on an engine package, ended up buying a JD 225.

I recall discussing with him the "shallow" keel his older 33YB has.
I recall he needed a particular gear because of the shallow keel.
He can give you some opinions on "what can fit".
Have you considered looking into having the Isuzu "rebuilt" ?

I went out in the boat today and the Isuzu ran good. I think I would prefer to have it rebuilt. Any idea what a rebuilt runs with install, etc.?

JON 30,
Have you called Jim Minnott or Tim Toppin for a price on a rebuilt John Deere 225?
