Found this one on Boat Trader recently and called the guy. He has built two other boats and told the owner of this one that if he ever sells it he would be interested in buying it. Well he did end up buying it and it is hard to believe this vessel used to haul 400 traps in Maine prior to the current owner purchasing it. Nice boat but I just don't think it is for me the way it is laid out. IF interested, call the owner, nice guy who still has a house in Maine and Florida where he works as a boat broker.

Used 2005 Farrins Calvin Beale 34, Fort Lauderdale FL - 341853 - BoatTrader.com

Lose alot of space on a charterboat with an engine box. Always in the way! I always used to jump over mine in my old boat just to take a piss. Nice boat. Would be nicer if it had a bigger house and no engine box. Charter customers like to be somewhat comfortable. They prefer to rest their back against something like some sort of a bench seat. Most don't really care to sit on an engine box or a cooler. Good luck with your boat search! I can see your on the right track!!

Question?

Was this 34CB formed up without the 2 inch "lift kit" Stew can add to the hull?

The free board looks low on this boat.

The 2 inch lift kit would eliminate the engine box and maybe take a couple inches off the helm cabin head room and lead to a 4 inch step up.

Correct ?

Bill,

I would have no idea about the lift kit and as far as an engine box for charters I have seen several with them. I have seen boats where seating is added to the boxes also it depends what type of charters the boat is conducting weather they are offshore all day or a half day inshore charter. Also thinking someone could be interested in this as a pleasure or tuna boat without charters.

Respectfully,

Dave

what a beautiful boat.....i have been on alot of boats and never minded the engine box as on many lobster boats that was where the totes for the bugs went and banding tray. all this engine box talk has me thinking- the shaft is in the boat on its angle, add a coaxial gear and it is very easy to come up with whether ot not a boat need a above deck engine box, small boats that "get by" without the box (such as a 31 bhp, which i owned and are very deep) sacrifice in being a deeper much harder to push hull, sorry to derail thread but everything in a boat is a trade off IMO

Bill, like I stated hard to believe this was a working lobster boat that hauled traps daily. It is a beautiful boat.

South Shore is a Calvin design, late 80's/early 90's. 30', 34', and I think the 38' were all designed by Calvin. "Tenacious", a somewhat well-known ex-stickboat from CC was one of the first, if not the first, SS 34'.

The topic of this thread is a later design (early 00's?) by Calvin, sold currently by Stewart Workman. She reflects the semi-recent movement to a wider boat, eschewing the 3-1 ratio that everybody used to adhere to in the "old" days.
