I FOUND THIS 35JC AND BEING AN OWNER OF ONE, I AM CURIOUS AS TO WHAT THIS IS. PERHAPS SOME SORT OF SPRAY REDUCER OR EVEN A TYPE OF LIFTING STRAKE?
I COULD NOT JUST COPY THE PHOTO, SITE WOULD NOT LET ME.
ANY IDEAS?

They did lots of crazy things to JC35's I think... There was one next to me that had twin engines and then a 4cyl I think it was diesel to troll with to save the main's...

Very interesting to find out more...

Two things puzzle me here.

Lifting rails: Most 35jc's do not need any help getting bow lift. As is my boat rides bow proud on its own. I have been using 1/2" to 5/8" nylon rope under the transom as trim wedge to bring my bow down, plus gain speed.

Secondly: I consider the 35jc to be a very dry riding boat. I do have have spray rails, but the bow flare on the boat really keeps green water away from the windshields.

So im puzzled as to what to purpose of this step looking rail is

thankyou for all and any input

Anyway that its a lifting or spray rail for a certain low speed where it doesn't have that bow high angle yet?

Looks like a marine version of the "man step" found in some pickup trucks these days. Maybe they like to see themselves peeking over the bow and this makes it easier? Or it is an anchor point for a pulpit that was never installed?

Looks like a good way to screw up a following sea ride, once that thing grabs no rudder in the world is turning that boat!

I cant wait to hear larry's opinion, being that he was a jc owner as well.

That thing makes no sense to me.

HERES ANOTHER THOUGHT. I BELIEVE THE KEEL HAS BEEN SHAVED OR CUT. TOUGH TO TELL BY THE PICTURES. AND I DONT HAVE A PHOTO OF MY OWN HERE ON THIS COMPUTER. BUT LOOK AT THE DIFFERENCE IN ENTRY ANGLE OF THESE TWO

Jack cadiero was fooling around with a 35' about fifteen years ago trying to fix some of the down sea characteristics. I believe it was that one from the look of the windows. At that time he was talking about incorporating these changes into the 31' and then building a new mold.

According to the for sale add the hull is a 1999. Mine is a 1991. I agree with el mar. Someone was doing some tinkering the hull.

I gotta be honest my jc in a following sea is no worse then any other downeaster i have ran. This weekend i had the opportunity of taking the helm of the capt. Mark(39bhm twin screw) in a following sea and it handled no better or worse then the jc does. My buddies 36 harris in a following sea was all with in a % the same behavior.

Im tempted to call the broker and find out what was the purpose of that modification. This is all curiosity.

I SPOKE WITH THE BROKER ON THE 35JC I HAD POSTED QUESTIONS ABOUT HERE AND THIS IS HIS RESPONSE.

John,

The vessel belongs to a boat yard owner who wanted to eliminate the "keel walking" that a lot of these down east boats do. So he ground down and shortened the depth of the V forward, built the spray rail which looks weird to prevent water from sliding up the bow when planing, added spray rails and the rudder mod. He swears the boat is faster and dryer. I can let you talk directly to him. All of this was done in a professional yard with photo documentation.
