I would argue that algae-x could not clear up a smoke problem on its own. Something else was corrected in the process.
Well the letter from the CG stated that there were no other changes done. Prior to the Algae-X installation, they had performed various maintenance services to the engine, and more or less tried Algae-X as a last resort. The CG letter was signed by someone high up in the CG, and it equivocally stated that there were no other changes done at that time. Problem was fully resolved and did not return.

Algae growing in the fuel is somehow disrupted when running by a magnetic source. If the algae dies off, stops growing inside the tanks, the fuel would be cleaner. This all started when a boater in NZ noticed that one diesel tank had a continual contamination problem, and the other did not. Investigating the issue, he noticed that one fuel line ran close the a magnetic source, I believe it was a battery charger. That is how the industry got started.

13 Whaler, 14 Salty Boats, 36 Northern Bay. WTF!?!
That makes sense.
Tunaorlater is spot on.
2-3 hours savsd or spent over a hundred projects x hourly rate, it adds up.
If you want a budget to at least stay in sight in the rearview you should continue to think about what can be upgraded later.
I had a budget in mind. Turned out that was for the first year.

Any progress made on this build?
Good morning, hull is cored and being turned around next week for the extension to be added (Extension is all ready made waiting to be put on the boat). 900hp Volvo expected by may 1st, 9kw northern lights generator is due in June. Finisher is scheduled to start boat in June Was supposed to start April which hull will be ready by mid end of April but there’s a 46’ wesmac in the bay my boats being finished in that is very close to being done. Either way I’m missing this season so I don’t think it would make any difference when he starts. Joe Sargent is the finisher and he’s a very laid back gentleman and I’m excited to be working with him.

Anyone care to comment on what you think the speed will be? 42’ northern bay, 900hp Volvo, 9kw northern lights generator, full bathroom, full galley, bunks/v-berth, typical electronics, typical canyon set up fishing gear, 500 gallon fuel, seakeeper 6. I was secretly hoping for 26-28 knot cruise. Wondering if I should have put 1000 hp Volvo instead of the 900 hp. I’d rather build lighter by removing gear then loose speed. That’s just my personal preference.

You will get slightly more speed if Gary moves back the forward bulkhead. With a cat 1150 they have a 29 knot cruise burning around 40-42 gph. I'm thinking your going to be all of 26 knots. You can always do the 1000 hp. Lifting rails are a must. Personally I'd want more fuel capacity than 500 gallons.

Joe Sargent building the boat. Im not considering any engine builder except Volvo. 900 hp or possibly 1000hp Volvo.

I'd rather go with more HP than go lighter.
