Ok gentlemen, and hopefuly Ladies( that would be hot). I've been researching a few builders ,but would like a unbiased opinion without offending any of the builders on site.

I in the near future will be looking at a new build and would like the members trusted thoughts.

First off my needs.
A quick boat, ( 700- 1000 hp) , but don't want waisted hp 22+ cruise
Accessible engine and gen below deck
400 gallons of fuel
No bridge, maybe a small "marlin tower"
Stable hull, especially on the drift
Small galley, full head with stand up shower, large v birth to sleep two, maybe a bunk down below also. Fold up or in place of galley below
Wrap around L couch in the full house with a table that drops down for a full bed.
7' of head room in house to provide for overhead rod storage .
Rear helm station with a hydraulic wheel.
Small gen under deck
Large tuna door,
And a shit load of other crap that wouldn't make a difference on the hull.
Boat will be a family boat, but set up right to fish.

This is a vague question . Just like your thoughts , I have a fave in mind , but would apreciate your opinions.

For a 38? Northern Bay. Easy to do everything you listed and more.

We had a great build with Emme with a QSM-11 pumping out 670 hp.

That was the one , but wanted to know your thoughts, especially with this flowers on the seen.

I'm thinking this will be a heavier boat, so i like large hp, rather run her gentle then have her pinned. What was that NB's numbers
I'm a year or two off hopefully.

Bob, not to derail your great thread here, but I personally would like to focus on getting the 6CTA 430 propped correctly in your 31 Duffy BEFORE I have to give thought to your 38 footer. ;)

Travis, how would you compare the 38 NB and the 38 WESMAC ? I'm not interested in a 38 footer, just asking?
And yes the Emme was quite the build !!

I'm comming from a smaller Duffy, that I am completely impressed with its speed and stability. I have learned that along with the added footage I need to cram the family's needs in ,I would like a beamy ass end . In another words a "fast comfy fat ass girl" . I guess that will never change.

I personally like the Flowers, Lowell Brothers, or Wesmac in the 38' size, but if you want the most room, the most stable, great speed potential, and not have to worry about the weight of all the goodies you put on the boat, then get the 38' Calvin Beal. She would fly with 700-1,000hp and you could load it with everything in your house and she would carry it no problemo. Stewart Workman is a top notch guy and boat builder. The 38' Calvin Beal dwarfs the other 38's and it is an efficient hull.

Plenty of time for that friend , like I said the boat wasn't far off or maybe was semi ok on my test run last year. Few things to check and I have a feeling it's and am hopping its a simple tweak. Prob could use an inch tweak or a 24" wheel. Alot of weight gets added 12 yrs after launch.I'll bet with a clean bottom reckoned prop she hits 2700 easy . Just what I feel from running the boat all year.

Just shy of 400K with all of the options and systems on it. When it was appraised they came up with a replacement cost of 650K.

If you didn't want to go crazy with the flat screens and the satellite tv, game control station and other entertainment options we can shave that down.

If you wanted it to be heavier that would save some cash as well, but that quickly gets sucked through the fuel tank.

500 gallon capacity and it hardly ever uses half a tank during normal operations, I forget what the total consumption was all the way to Long Island from Maine, be surprised if it was over 300. I'm sure it's in my notes somewhere. I want to say like 240ish.

Keep in mind that 1000 hp is over 100k, and that's just the engine. Haven't bought the units for any of the other propulsion pieces let alone turned a screw.

Want me to run some numbers for you?

The 700- 1000 hp was only in my head because I started looking at larger boats , but fell over. My current boat has large hp for its size, and I like more ponies then less.
BillD, dialing in my boat is first task, but a lot easier then scrounging up the cash for a new build, but one needs a goal and something to think about when there's snow on the ground. I'm glad I decided to keep my current boat, rather then sell and think about a new build. Need a new roof this spring. I don't like banks either , like to save .i don't want anyone to be a part owner.

I can put the flat screen in, and run it off the net. I'm into function.

What the feeling on extending a 38 flowers/nb to 40/41 ft? Leaving running gear in place. Wondering if it would destroy the following sea ride or not?
