Some day...
Considering a Ford with a 2007 6.0 powerstroke with relatively low miles. Looking for any input on here about the 6.0 as I know some of you own them. I’ve heard of them being time bombs but also heard people really like them. I’ve been told too that the 07 was the best of the 6.0s because it was the last year they made them and had most of the known bugs worked out of them. I don’t plan on tuning the shit out of it and driving it like an asshole, just looking for some decent reliability. I’d plan on deleting the EGR and maybe studding it at some point

I've heard from my ford mechanic buddy when I was going to buy one:

"6.0 got a bad rap from people, mostly because they fucked with them. The truck is solid. Stick is a plus. 550 is a good platform EGR coolers , Injectors and Head gaskets are the main issues. That is not a Cummins. " "Sound like all the common 6.0 stuff has been done. Studs are a plus. The EGR delete fixes the cooler issue and head-gasket concerns. Your looking at 6k or more to have all that work done. Then figure the truck and bed/crane price, doesn’t sound bad. How’s the rust? Those boxes are in your way to set Bouys on the bed. "

Think John has done most of the necessary work.

Get a scanner and make sure!!! you check the Delta T between the coolant and the oil. It is very important that they are within 15 degrees of each other. Make sure that the Degas bottle is not chalky or have signs of boiling over. Check for oil leaks everywhere! Spool it up and make sure you have good boost. Look for leaks around the egr cooler and turbo. Great motor with lots of possibilities but do your homework. Tons of information out there!

I have an 05 and an 06 both 450s with utility bodies. Both are around 140-150k been lucky enough not to do anything other than dealing with some turbo issues. The variable vane turbo tends to get built up with carbon and can get hung up.

Knock on wood they have been great engines.

Tomorrow I’ll get the call that there’s something wrong with the truck!!
take them apart and clean them every 30-50k and you won't have any problems!

Look up bulletproof diesel they have a bunch of great stuff and I really like their egr cooler! Also put in a coolant filtering system and get rid of the cats!

07 was a short run for trucks about half a year. yes they were better. one built after 10 of 03 is vastly different than one before it. 07 was not the last yr of the 6.0 it was put in the e series van thru 10. no tunner none ever. good 15 40 oil and only ford filters only. never ever napa or other junk. and make sure the oil filter cap is ford. and a new rad cap and keep the coolant down a inch or so below the normal mark

What'd you end up doing?
Truck ended up selling. It was a clean 2007 with 90k a flatbed and a plow for $9k. Moved in a few days. Wasn’t really ready to commit I have an f150 with no problems so wasnt really in a rush either. I appreciate all the feedback tho!

Common story.
Clean trucks are selling in a day or a few & for good $ no matter the year & miles
I’ve been looking to replace my very rusty 2003 Super Duty.
Last weekend I took a ride to Connecticut to look at a few. 2 weekends ago went north to NH. This weekend, looked at 4 trucks local on Ma.
People should be working as professional photographers, not salesman. Look great from the pictures, look in person..... shit boxes.

Should anyone know of any used ones for sale that are clean/rust free, I’m all ears.
Prefer a 7.3 or 6.0 automatic transmission, power stroke, no plow or dump body
I have the plow and a clean dump body. I’ll add the rust over the next 5-10 years
Wow, that really was a good deal.
Yeah here was the listing. Hindsight shoulda jumped on it.
