I have a tach issue recently the tach remains at zero until engine reaches 1800 rpm. I have checked the usual stuff loose wires ect. The red led is lit on the back light. What and where are the sending units? What type of pickup is used? My gut reaction is that the tach is on its way out... Thanks Bob

Bob,

the 6BTAs have a factory OEM magnetic "4 lead" sender that is mounted @ the 10-11 o'clock position on bell housing behind the after cooler. (looking from the back of the engine).

Two leads are for the tach, the other two for the air heater circuit.

I junked the OEM VDO tachs on my 370s and installed a digital Aetna tach and run it off the two leads off the sender.

Slick setup +- 1 rpm accurate.
