Inspired by other similar projects on this forum, I'm replacing the transom & deck on my 1978 Pointer. What a godawful mess under there!

Wow what a can of worms. Looks like its time to do the rest of the deck/beams no?

One thing ALWAYS leads to another when you tear into them! At least you have the luxury of working inside of a building. Good luck with her.

Looks like a great winter project on a good old boat. Keep posting.

Hey there, May I ask who made your pointer? I purchased a 19 pointer made by Phillie. Older boat, 1970 but looks like its in great shape for its age. Hope I do not have to take on a project like yours but seems like it is inevitable. How did yours come out?

got any new pics? Looks like mine did... no deck crown, undersized scuppers that are too far inboard. Where are you at now?

Built by the Pointer Corp. Yarmouth Maine 1978

Project has been slow going due to the cold winter. Brought the boat back to my house, starting to make some progress again. Will post some photos soon.

Fun times.. Thanks for posting.. Are you going to rebuild the stringers the way they were built ? If I had any advice , make sure you pitch that deck for proper drainage.. Will drive you bananas if you don't ..I know from experience

Also surprising to see no limber holes to drain or at least provide the slightest bit of ventilation down there. Would go for some kind of access and a pump/holes fore and aft in every deck beam personally.

I am replicating what came out, but will also add a couple fore - aft stringers, for a grid type arraignment... Under deck drainage will be part of this. I may add some slight camber to the new deck to help with on deck drainage.
I decided not raise the deck and relocate scuppers higher. I go lobstering, and want to keep the rail height the same. I've always kept the weight distributed for proper self draining, should see an improvement?
New transom core is in...
The old wood that came out of the boat was so sopping wet, I hope she'll sit a little higher, and lighter... go faster.
