Looking for advice on the best way to freeze cod filets? I heard freezing them in some milk...? I do not own a vacuum sealer. Want to avoid freezer burn if possible. I am clueless on this.

Thanks in advance!

Just stop by my boat and pick up fresh fillets this winter... Okay, I need to stop dreaming...

I wrap mine tight in good quality plastic wrap;2 or so fillets at a time depending on size. We then put 4 or 5 wrapped packages in a large zip lock an freeze in a chest freezer. Package and freeze ASAP after cutting. Works great for me. 6 + months and they are still awesome.

I have heard freezing in a little brine works real good also, though I have never tried it.

I put my fillets in a freezer bag and fill with water leaving no air at all in the bag. This method works great for me.

Guys, thank you! I like the looks of that Ziploc vacuum trick, for short money I think I will give that a shot!

So I guess I put the car before the horse, I got codfish, but not as many as I was hoping to get for the winter. See new post about cod jigging!

Yep Travis, I use the "Ziplock" food saver - works pretty darn good. Here is how I do Cod Fillets...First, inspect the fillets by holding up to the sun or a light - get rid of the pesky worms first. Then rinse in clean sea water - do not let fresh water touch the fillets. Then put them straight from the sea water into the ziplock bags. Get all air out possible and seal and freeze. IMO Cod is one of the best eating fish we have.

X3 on the zip loc-they wok great! I've had 2 of the electric bagger sucker machines and they both failed. So I'm standing in line to return the 2nd machine and the lady behind me says "oh yeah, those things always break, had a couple of high end ones and they were both junk, get the Zip Loc" This was in Ketchikan,AK where they also know a thing or two about freezing fish.

Just put the cod in the driveway overnight tonight and it will be frozen solid by morning.
