I have been doing a big project to my 31 JC this past fall and winter. The boat is at Crows Nest Marina in East Rockaway. They are doing a fabulous job. They have alot of very talented people who take alot of pride in there work and have great indoor facility to work in.
The project consists of a cabin build, paint job, gunnel reconstruction, bow thruster, double anchor system, and a new hardtop with marlin half tower. Timmy Davison is building the hardtop with schedule 80 pipe and welding in supports to install a greenstick later on. We first started egging out balsa core where all new terminations will be ; hardtop supports, anchor system wheels, pulpit rail stantions, teak hand rails, and bow hatch. Then built up solid glass in these areas, so there will be absolutely no rot in the future. The gunnel capping was taken off the boat and flipped upside down to cut skin of the fiberglass underneath. All of the Balsa was removed and glassed in new coosa composite. Then more glass was added on top. The entire hull and top was sanded and faired for paint job. Bow thruster is done and cabin build is still in progress. Their is still alot more work to be done, but here are a few pics of the project. I will add more, as it only let me upload 2.

Here are some pics of the bow hatch. I made a form out of wood, used some aluminum siding material and waxed it, then solid glassed. i made the opening smaller so that when we get the window we can cut it to the size of the template.

I pre drilled all the holes for the anchor hardware and teak hand rails through the solid glass areas so that i know for sure where they are being placed.

This is a picture of getting all of that soft rotton balsa core out of the gunnel capping. They cleaned it thoroughly, added a layer of glass to bond to the New Coosa composite..

They screwed 2 by 6 's to the gunnel to provide strength when lifting it off the boat!
