There is a squeeze play on kero at the moment. You will notice winter blend prices are all over the map. Those that are using an additive with no kero are more than a dollar cheaper per gallon. Those using kero have much higher prices. Diesel fuel prices are actually coming down but you would never know it by looking at the pumps.
My C15’s in my Pete’s do like the fuel. I’ve upped my prices but it’s going to start to hurt somewhere

It's a good time to pull the trigger on long term stocks like energy and healthcare ,they'll prevail.

The prices are out of control right now. Agreed. Butttt, in all reality things are going up ( a little inflated ) w cost of living. The problem is the wages are not comparable. In New Jersey , 1996 I was making 50k base a year. Houses were 100-150k. Trucks were 30- 40k. 2023 I'm making 80k base . And that's supposedly good money !! Homes 3-450k . Trucks are 80k. Politics are NOT big business. We all allowed it to be!! Dem or Rep you loose!! It just keeps us torn!! FOR THE PEOPLE BY THE PEOPLE!! We have to take back

Dollars don't stretch. They only shrink. But I know what you mean. Although a small part of that is normal in a good economy, most of the shrinkage we see in our lives was caused after Nixon tossed the dollar into an ice-cold swimming pool full of sharks back in 1971 when he dumped the gold standard. Yes, he was a crook. If George Castanza was president at the time that never would have happened. He knows how shrinkage can hurt a man's chances in life.

That was one of the best shows on TV. The shrinkage episode was one of the best along with bubble boy, and when the cabin burned down. Never a bad episode.

Nixon tossed the dollar into an ice-cold swimming pool full of sharks back in 1971 when he dumped the gold standard.

Nixon didn't dump the gold standard, he just let the price float from $35.5 per ounce. FDR dumped the standard...

On April 20, President Roosevelt issued a proclamation that formally suspended the gold standard. The proclamation prohibited exports of gold and prohibited the Treasury and financial institutions from converting currency and deposits into gold coins and ingots. The actions halted gold outflows.

went to the NY boat show yesterday , never been there before, so me and the gf took a ride
show was full of center consoles, every make and size, and the prices were incredible
anything 25-27 ft twin outboards, 250 to 400 grand
30-34ft twins or trips, upped the number to 500-700 grand
39 and up trips and quads, started around 850 grand and up to 1.4mill

there was a lot of boats with Sold signs, most of the sales guys I talked to had sold a few
boats at the show
the one Pardo there, an italian CC that you would have had a hard time fishing off of was sold
1 million , 38 ft with trips
who in there right mind would buy a 30 ft black fin CC with twins for 680 grand , and there wasn't even a place to hide from the weather or sit down,

I left the show scratching my head for sure
Or $50K for a 20’ johnboat

Boat are luxury items for most, and they are treated as such by salesman, doesn’t matter anymore how much they cost to built, the sale price is directly related to how much some of us or better said some of them are willing to pay for it, period !
H&H marine can built a solid 32’ hull and top for $55k adding a $38k engine and another $40k in system and materials and you have a diy kit for under $135k add another $100k in man hour and you have your 32’ finished and delivered , now go and explain to me why a Carolina walkaround cost $1M: because they can sale it at that price so instantly that become the standard
I asked Blackwell BY for a white box, no finishes no systems no woodwork just the hull top and engine : $750/850k how different this would be from the H&H kit ? Not so much except that someone will pay $1M for the finished Blackwell and no one will ever pay $500k for the H&H
Is the Blackwell a better and more seaworthy boat, hell no ! But it’s trendy …

This has always been the case, and usually the sale involves a boat that's barely been used, because the owner has discover one of the following:
  • They've had some financial setbacks so the disposable cash fund has been drastically reduced so there goes the boat
  • They never really used the boat, the kids' weekend soccer games, recitals, football, etc.
  • They've just found out how much winterization/storage/spring commissioning cost and they've soiled their pants because they hadn't budgeted for that.
Bad for them, great for savvy boat buyers. Got my Eastern for less than 1/2 its purchase price when it was 3 years old with 60 hrs on the motor!!! It was an honest, "I can't afford NOT to buy this boat!!!!" event.

Problem now is that idiots are buying boats with trips, quads, & quints, with no other reason than "LOOK AT MY TOY!!" These folks are filthy rich, stock market gazillionaires who have no problem spending a million bucks plus on a boat to pull up to in their Lamborghini, a boat that few of us would even consider on taking as a gift. These spending trends will mean the pool of used boats useable for commercial fishing or desired by serious recreational fishermen, will start to dry up, and most here will be SOoL!

I probably only have a fifteen or so years left in my boating life, so I'll survive with what I've got, but I do feel sorry for my younger colleagues...
In addition to "winterization/storage/spring commissioning cost", there's on more point that I'd add in a decision to sell a recreational boat - Delays in servicing because of lack of qualified labor. We are older folks and recently sold our boat because two years in a row we did not get in the water until 4th of July weekend after asking for a 15 May commissioning date. And, that is from a well known, well regarded yard in the area. In New England when you miss Memorial Day weekend and the 4th of July weekend, you've missed prime family time on the water. The season is short enough, but when the boat is primarily there to enjoy with family, there is not much enjoyment looking at your boat sitting on the hard in prime vacation time.
