Went shrimp trapping with a buddy today. Beautiful weather, 44 degrees, calm wind. 35 MC, 375 Deere.

Pic 2-Headed out, 2100 RPM, 19 knots (no cage).

Pic 3, for Steve in AK. :)

Pic 4, Maine shrimp, tiny compared to the AK flavor.

Pic 5, 60 traps back at the dock, season ends tomorrow.

19 knots at 2,100 rpms is good performance in a 35' Mitchell Cove. Last season I fished a boat that had the 6081 375hp Deere and it would top out at about 18.5 knots loaded with gear and fuel.

Thanks for the picture!! I always wondered how those traps fished so i built a few for myself stuck them in between my other traps on the string and when i hauled they really disappointed me, they basically had nothing in them. I tried fishing them for a couple more trips but they never caught anything for me. Must be the type of shrimp you have back there cause i've heard that they fill those traps right full sometimes. I can't wait to get fishing here but the season doesn't open till April 15 and no news of how many traps will be allowed to fish(40 last year) and what the quota will be this year. Do they fish those as singles or on a string of a few? They fish on mud bottom? How deep.
I fish on hard rocky bottom and usually right around 80-100 fathoms is the magic depth. I fish 8-10 traps on a line.

Steve-

My buddy fishes pairs, and likes to be in 30-40 fathoms, on mud bottom. They have narrow lanes up next to the hard bottom where they can fish, and keep their gear safe from the draggers.
