Captains Course Suggestions

Looking for best captains course in Mass. Was thinking about doing the mass maritime or new england maritime ones this winter.. anyone get their ticket from either of them? what did you think?

Are you going for a 6 pack or larger? Most guys I know went here for larger licenses.

Way back when I went to Sea School down south for a 1600T. But I stay in the engine room now.

I did Sea School for my OUPV, then American Boat School for my 50ton Masters.

A little dissapointed in both because the coursework was WAY to easy.

When my dad did his in the 80's he tested at the CG station in Boston and I remember helping him study for hours. The test seemed more dificult back then.

Did mine with New England Maritime out of Marina Bay.

Nothing but good things to say about them.

I took the american boat school class for a master license. I thought the class was great, but I think it had a lot to do with the teacher.

Ok thanks guys.. I think im gonna go with new england maritime just cause the Marina Bay class is right down the road from me..just wondering..for 100ton captains licenses do they make you get the TWIC card and all of that or? I have mine already for my 2nd engineers license but just wondering if they make everyone do all that BS now.

You have to get the TWIC to make the license legal. I think if you have it already, you should be good.

But knowing the government, I'm probably wrong.

You're spot on. I went through the process about 18 months ago. They want you to have the twic before sending your paperwork to W. Virginia. If you already have one - you're good to go.
