Nobody interested in Wicked Labstah? Or are negotiations top secret?
I think that you will find in the Lobster industry in Maine it is highly competitive and people are apprehensive to dive into something that gives the public and their peers in their harbor information about their catch throughout the year. It is not like people don't have an idea of who catches what and who is prosperous already, but having it all over the TV could create some bad blood for sure. Don't get me wrong, I think it makes for great TV as I know a lot of the guys in the business and the personality of the show would be phenomenal, but people that will do it will be walking a fine line with the information given out for sure! We have had plenty of water wars up here over territory and fishing grounds over the years and a lot of it was jealousy and a show like this could definitely stir that pot all back up again. Just my opinion on why no one is responding on here to this from the fishing community, if I had to guess.

On the a recent finacial debate,a yahoo CEO averaged 1,000,000 a day/365 income. With no risk. Really,,, who thinks a lobsterman is in competition with reality. Sure.. if you want to compare it to working at McDonalds..some of the fishermen do pretty good then.

Not sure I follow you at all Lobster? We are talking about hard working men in Maine and their livlihoods here, and I have family in the business along with a lot of friends and customers, this is just what I see and hear and just my perspective having lived around the business my whole life as well.

With the sole exception of Original Productions (Deadliest Catch, Thom Beers), TV Production companies have absolutely zero interest in showing the realities of lobster fishing. They don't care about the industry. They don't care about history, tradition, your harbor, you bait supply, the state of Maine or your family.
They only care about 1 thing: ratings.
And they will invent/drum up/inject BS drama whenever & wherever possible.
If, like most Americans, you believe that being on TV will somehow make your life better, and therefore you don't care how you are portrayed, go for it.
But there is NO DOUBT they only make money if they make fishermen look bad.

I'm in the same boat where some guys think their secrets are a major advantage. ( me included ) In the rest of the world, our incomes don't equal to what others make for the effort and dedication we put in, in time, investment and risk of it in both money and life involved. If we don't produce, we don't get anywhere . If some CEO doesn't produce.. he makes more money than the whole town of fishermen make in a lifetime. In part because, I believe some of us think our product is worthless. I think we/our industry (fishing) commands the highest of respect and for each other. I don't understand why some think it is a disadvantage. We deserve more than what we really get. JMHO

The last lobster reality show helped the boat price/ or it was coincidental anyway.

Al Roka always seams to be around when good stuff happens.

I hope he is successful with his venture and a win win all around.
